I picked up a $399 pit barrel on marketplace for $70. Only used 3 times.

How is that worth $399, I'm not saying its not awesome, it is and I'm glad you only paid $70 for that, which is what it looks like its worth.....55 gal drum

Just wondering how they get off thinking they can charge $399. Unless I am missing some incredible work that is hidden. :notsure:

I think the horse shoes for handles gives it a little something extra.

I have to agree, I will not pay full price for it. But, if you do youtube reviews, something about it makes it superior. It outperforms other barrel style cookers/smokers almost every time.
It looks like a 55gal oil drum, but it is actually much thicker steel and is powder coated, so will last a lot longer than using a drum.
One of their claims is that you can hang ribs on hooks, so you can get about 7 or so racks in there as opposed to just one or two if you have to lay it flat on a grate. But you can still do that if you use a regular oil drum, I guess.

Anyways, I am happy with the $70 price, and would not pay any more for it (especially since I don't need it, I have twelve other grills), but others who have paid full price are very happy with it.

Grilled sandwich is a staple where I grew up. We call it 'braaibroodjie', translated 'grilled sandwich' but grilled as in over coals, not like an American grilled cheese that's made on the stove.
No BBQ is complete without it. It has butter, cheese, tomato and onion on it. I sprinkled a little Italian herbs on the outside. You can add a little BBQ spice on the tomato instead of just salt & pepper, use different types of cheese etc. for variations, but that's the basics of it.

    Something like this:
    upload_2024-4-23_13-16-45.png

you can load it up dagwood style with whatever you want, like this brunch sandwich, but that's not considered traditional 'braaibroodjie' anymore.

FYI. It is a real thing and it has a fan base similar to Weber kettles.

Roadside chicken. Got this from the virtual Weber bulletin board many years ago. The recipe says make a separate batch of marinade for grilling. Food safety. This is very flammable with the oil. I used a generic squeeze bottle which worked great.
