Any updates? The paragraph above could read exactly like my experience this morning with my brand new ‘23 TRD Off Road, also with 3k miles. I’m sitting at the dealer right now.

A friend and coworker sent me this post, and I’m now formulating my own argument if they try and pull the bad gas BS with me too. I go to the same Speedway at the same pump every time, with my truck and my wife’s car, and she’s never had any issue.

    Here are my codes:

OP- Toyota has a TSB(Toyota Service Bulletin) for the faulty fuel pump, specific TSB(20TA02). FUEL PUMP is known to be faulty from factory, some have issues with fuel smell in the truck following startup, others have bad fuel rail pressure(under 70PSI) causing engine performance issues(ECM will place truck in limp mode due to faulty pump signal/pressure)
Dealer should cover all work pertaining to the pump, they can bill Toyota corporate directly via the TSB. Don’t let them scam you out of $ the factory will cover.
Search the forum for “fuel pump TSB” or TSB 20TA02, much more info from others with the remedy too.

I saw this too, but it was issued 4 years ago, do you think they could still be manufacturing vehicles with the faulty pumps?

Short answer…..YES. The fact these trucks still have the 05+ frames(with their issues/AC drip rusting/delamination) and rear axle(same axle from 05 W/ drums), Toyota just in the past 3 months has approved Icecap white tacos to be repainted(factory defects, too thin of application at MX plant) covers 10+ years off tacomas. I would call a few dealers and ask them to look into the TSB and see if your VIN is covered under it.
Basically it takes a lot of people nagging about the same issue to get Toyota to look into issuing a TSB, they will avoid responsibility UNTIL the repair/fix outweighs the standing issue, then they issue a TSB to avoid a class action lawsuit(almost had one with the white paint issues).

Now for your pump: if the dealer showed it providing 3PSI instead of 70PSI, then the pump is faulty(should be covered under warranty if not TSB). If the dealer is stating “bad gas” then they are burdened with providing lab based results that support their assessment(but they don’t/wont). PPM(Parts per Million) is the measurement utilized for liquid measurements in labs, so if they don’t have that….then they’re just blowing smoke or they are too naive to understand the truck(most techs are young and willing to learn, but these computer controlled vehicle's are mostly above their understanding/capability).
Hopefully you get the dealer to own up to the issue, as the previous rep you’ve dealt with does not seem to know the common issues/TSBs out for the Tacoma(every tacoma owner got a TSB letter for the fuel pump about 6-8 months ago)

Just an update on my issue from yesterday… I picked up my truck today. It turned out to be the Fuel Pump Control Module. They replaced it and gave me a loaner under warranty. Fingers crossed that that was the fix. Dealership was great and did their due diligence.

Bought my 2023 Tacomas in April, 2023. In August 2023, went into limp mode, jerking, slow speed, but I got it back home - I wasn’t a quarter mile away, thank goodness. Towed to the dealership in the next town. New fuel injector assembly. All was fine till today. April 17, 2024. Same issue - went into limp mode again. Once again, I was lucky - less than two miles from home. I’m waiting on the tow truck now. I don’t know for sure, but it sure seems like the same problem to me. Here’s the message it gave:
“A malfunction in the electronic control of the engine, throttle, or automatic transmission has been detected. Contact your Toyota dealer in order to have your vehicle inspected.”

Had the same thing happen to me when I bought my truck. Went into limp mode brought it straight to the dealer. From what I understand they replaced a fuel injector but im not really sure since the RO was not very detailed. I can try and find it if you still are having issues. Would love to hear the end result.

OP probably enjoying his new Ranger. Can’t blame him after that kind of dealer experience.

    PEOPLE -

The average density of gasoline is 0.75 grams per cubic centimeter. This takes <1 minute to learn via a Google Search.

The sample taken from the fuel line measured 0.738 (see below highlighted), when rounded correctly equates to 0.74.

That is 0.01 difference in density, which is completely and totally insignificant, and also LIGHTER than pump standard of 0.75. There is NO WAY that fuel sample had "heavy deposits" with that sample test result.

BE SURE TO READ YOUR DIAGNOSTIC REPORT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Update: Heard back from the dealership today. Each cylinder has two injectors - a port and a direct. Last August (2023) when this happened, they replaced the port injectors. Now the direct injectors are misfiring. So, they are gonna replace the direct injectors - and some fuel lines. I have told the guy both times he’s called that I don’t want this to happen again - two times is enough. Three strikes, and I’m unloading the Tacoma and probably Toyota for good.

What is the advantage of a new car dealership finding ways to not cover a vehicle repair under warranty? What is their scheme?

Is this a serious question? Seriously?!!?

Every warranty claim that is denied is less repair work and therefore more profit........

Simple. In 2012 my 2006 Chevy Colorado cylinder head failed under warranty. First dealer refused to fix it despite it having failed the leakdown test ordered in the warranty unless I paid cash up front. Second dealer fixed it and I showed up to almost a $2000 bill for other stuff related "pay it or I can't release the truck". Fought the dealer and corporate for months, each saying the other is responsible.

Dealer told me he loses about $30 an hour labour between a customer pay job and a warranty pay job, plus loses markup on the parts. Do the math.

A dealer gets paid less for warranty work from Toyota than they would make from regular service work if you pay full price for the repair.

Someone referenced the TSB earlier, might be a good thing to have in pocket for those having issues. My fuel pump was replaced under this TSB.

Not sure if that applies to all model years, but there clearly was a fuel pump issue.

    Mine is a 2019.
