Invoice states: “Fixed weld spatter, replaced nut.”

I picked it up after hours, so couldn’t speak with anyone. What’s up with the replaced nut? Any thoughts on alignment? Thx.

What does the invoice say? They replace anything?

Sorry, I misread the opening thread; I got my recall notice today, I have yet to schedule the appointment for the recall.

These are the four nuts holding the wheel bearing housing to the axle tube. You can remove and install those nuts all day without affecting alignment.

I'm guessing that was related to the tiny bit of the suspect splatter underneath some of the nuts. They probably replace them to eliminate any future cause of (or blaming) problems related to the original "compromised" nuts. Their mating surface is no longer pristine / ideal after grinding over the splatter bumps. Newly flattened axle surface : new / flat nut surface.

So, according to a tech buddy, if there is any gouges on the nut face they will replace the nut.

I just took my late 2022 (built first week of September 2022) in for the recall today and my Tacoma was in fact impacted. Per the post mortem report:

I'm not sure why they spelled it "Weld Spatter" twice and then "Weld Splatter" once. :p

Yes. I think they’re worried if it will back out. They have to clean up the surface for weld spatter and then replace the nut(s) if they’re gouged. Mine initially didn’t meet the recall, then they expanded it and I just got finished with it yesterday.

I took mine in last week and they replaced one of my rear axle nuts. From what I understand if there was weld splatter under the nut they smooth out the weld splatter, and replace the nut just incase the nut was gouged or comprimised in any way from the weld splatter

I haven’t taken mine in, but this has me reminiscing back when they were re-torquing the rear differential nut on my ‘16 like it was yesterday.

I’m generally no big fan of recalls, but for me personally this one’s almost poetic. Been a great run in between, so zero complaints.
