I checked the PCV valve roughly following the instructions here. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/pcv-valve-replacement-help.771466/

I think it was the video that suggested an adjustable wrench, and that did the trick without having to remove a lot of other stuff. The valve looks perfect, has a healthy rattle, passes air the correct way and blocks air in reverse. I didn't even bother to replace it with a new one. While I had stuff loosened up, I changed the two nearest spark plugs. Five down, one to go.

I also let some oil out of the filter housing to get it down to the max fill on the dipstick. I don't have a tool to remove the filter housing yet, so I couldn't inspect the filter. I probably could have gotten it off with a rubber strap wrench, but I wasn't confident I could tighten it correctly afterwards.

I'll check the intake occasionally, but I'm going to assume it's normal unless I find an alarming amount of oil.

Definitely a valid argument for installing an oil catch can.

I put a second catch can coming off the passenger side valve cover vent tube that feeds back into the intake . Not really necessary, but I want to stop any oil vapors going back into the intake .

that’s a really BAD idea unless you have another PCV valve installed in the hose were in the valve cover.

I don’t think it means anything. I’ve seen other vehicles do this. Good idea to replace the PCV valve as others have mentioned.

same kinda, i just know that lot of oil can be cause for an alarm to go off and that some or a lil bit is okay. Its kind of hard to really say with just two pics.Luckily OP is proactive with his maintenance though

    Doesn't matter.
The more oil in that hose, the more blowby.

Don't be too alarmed, newer Corvettes and Porsche's have the same issues.

Just added toolbox and roof-rack to haul my fishing boat 100's of miles into the backwoods every week. Goodrich K02s, Bilstein 5100 front and back, no lift.
My PCV also seemed ok, clean and lots of rattle.

I still replaced it, and noticed an immediate improvement in idle, acceleration etc.

for the cheap coast of a pcv, change it. I did mine at 65K miles.

no, you kind of missed it as well. Having that host is just fine. The problem is is if he doesn’t have a check valve or a PCV valve in that line. An engine backfire could cause a world of freaking shit.

You responded to vent tube question.
There have been a gazillion empty vent tubes over decades with no ill effects.
