Hi all! First post here. I just bought a certified pre owned 2021 Tacoma trd double cab, 7k miles. It’s been fantastic, but I do have a concern.

the tachometer does a weird, really fast vibration/ticking while driving. Doesn’t really matter at what RPM. It does it when first starting up, and then it will stay at a constant RPM. Sometimes it feels like the engine is sound the same sort of veneration, other times it doesnt. I’m gonna try to attach a video that shows it. This was while driving it for a while and putting it in park. This is a much slower vibration/ticking than it is when driving at 40-50 mph.

I’m going to ask the dealership what they think it is when I go in for an oil change, but I was wondering if any of you have an idea. You can also tell me if I’m just being paranoid too lol. I know the basics of vehicles, but not much more. Tyia!

Mine does this too, as if it’s flickering up and down on a speed except mine happens between 60-75.

Mine did also, they replaced the cluster and it has been mostly fine. I thought it saw it happen again the other day but i missed it if it did. If I see it again i'm gonna pull my cluster and see whats happening since i'm out of warranty. I suspect it's just a sticky needle because otherwise it would atleast have a pending code stored which mine doesn't

Is it when braking? The truck does engine break, even in automatic.

I’m not sure what Christmas tree means. It does it at random. Usually pretty faint at startup, and then a very fast tick/vibration of the needle between 1.6 and 1.9 when up to speed at 40ish mph.

Something similar happened to me about the RPM shaking, but what I think it was causing the problem was that I started using Shell gas, Regular 87 octane. Maybe it has to do with having more additives than cheaper gas..?

Than I went back to using cheaper gas that I always normally use like "Arco" Regular 87 octane and I think the problem got fixed, and everything went back to normal.

Or i think another cause would be very cold days..?

But for me changing to a different gas, I think fixed the RPM shaking for me.

Sir, i think you fixed my issue. I've been using shell gas EXCLUSIVELY since getting the truck last year. I switched to Chevron after reading your post, and i could immediately tell a huge difference. No more tach issues, and the whole truck just feels like it's running much smoother.

A HUGE thank you for posting this!! I never knew gas type could have such a huge impact.

I’m confused whether this thread is serious or a joke. More specifically, I’m confused by the claim that gasoline brand made a “huge difference”. Joke or serious?

I think Chevron gas is blended with Almond Milk to give it a silky smooth combustion like a field full of butterflies that have been disturbed and they take flight all at once.

I started this thread months ago lol, so no it's not a joke. I'm feeling a difference with chevron gas. whether or not it's psychological, idk. but my tachometer is not shaking like it used to...

That tachometer bouncing (like up down 0.25mm on your dash cluster) is perfectly normal.

    Jesus H Christ
DO NOT CLICK ON THE ATTACHED FILE

IT WILL DOWNLOAD TO YOUR COMPUTER

In other feedback, it is a video clip of the tach needle fluctuating +/- 1 mm which is PERFECTLY NORMAL
