I was reading that the majority of new car buyers won't even consider buying a vehicle without Carplay now. Apple really has a racket going

Stock for now, but working on it...researching my options now!
What is the part # or #'s from the 2020 Tacoma that I need to be searching for? Appears there are at least two part numbers that may work. 86140-04230 & 86140-04210. Can anyone provide insight as to which part # from the 2020 Taco's is best to search for? Looking to upgrade my 2019 screen to a 2020 or newer. TIA.

It depends what you have now and what you want to have after the upgrade. Do you have navigation and would you like to retain it? Is your system JBL?

Does the Scout GPS Link count as navigation? I definitely would like apple car play so looking for 2020 and newer, and would like to have navigation as well. Any other features I should look into when upgrading?

2017 Tacoma TRD Off-road: Awesome thread! I bought a 2021 TRD Pro Entune 3.0 on ebay. Harness from Infotainment.com that includes the USB adapter. Everything boots nicely and works... except no CarPlay connection. Either the USB is dead, or there's something else happening. Same phone works great in our wireless Rav4 CarPlay.

Anyone have any issues with the USB in a 2017ish Taco not working with the upgrade? Any recommendations? I'm kinda losing my mind ;)

first thing is to make sure you’re using a quality USB cord. I’ve had cheap ones not work for CarPlay. Second thing I’d do is reach out to autoharnesshouse and ask them, they’re super helpful I hear

yeah, I need to do that. The interesting thing is that it can’t even read a USB thumb drive formatted properly. But I will definitely try it again. I also have a new USB port coming from Amazon just to see if that helps. If you guys have 2016 to 2019 Tacoma‘s are not having the same issue then I’ll assume it’s something on my end

Bringing this back…. I just got a head unit from a junk yard on ebay and the harness through autoharnesshouse.com. Made sure I picked the right head unit corresponding to my non-nav non-JBL that is in my 2019.
I’m not savvy when it comes to self install for aftermarket audio, I have always taken it to a local shop that specializes in that.
My question is, would they install it? I know it’s a different VIN, but I have the photos from the truck in came from, the ebay listing, VIN, etc..

Do you use the Toyota connect app? Did you have to have a donor VIN to do the updates?

I’m not being facetious when I say a ten year old could do it. It’s four bolts and just plugging the harnesses in. Even if you mix up the two that are similar, it won’t blow any fuses or anything. That’s truly all that’s required for installation, it doesn’t matter that it came from another truck like it does in some cars.

Literally didn’t even remotely answer my question. I never asked how difficult it was to do. I’m sure it’s easy, I just feel more comfortable with someone else doing it. Thanks for nothing.

I had a whole message typed out where I was going to lie to you and tell you they wouldn’t do it because it came out of another car and they would assume it was stolen. I decided to not be mean to you like you were to me for no reason. They will install it and take your $500 for a job an infant could do. I hope your day gets better and you learn that this is a forum where we help each other, not be jerks for no reason

So did anyone need the nav adapter for the Entune 3.0 if your existing truck already had it?

What do you mean by nav adapter? If you have a non JBL unit with nav 2019 or earlier, you just need a nav capable unit for 2020+ and the adapter harness. The head unit is pn 86140-04200

I just got HU 86140-04230 and I was looking at Autoharnesshome’s site and in the pricing they have a nav adapter, just wondering if I need this or not. Thanks

No, that is the non nav unit so you don’t need it

Oh okay I could swore my coworker said was a nav unit like my old one, but if I have CarPlay and I use my phone to put in the directions I could use that possibly. Don’t want to spend $$& on a harness and may not use it, due to not having navigation. Thanks.

Toyota OEM Apple CarPlay stereo upgrade
Anyone have a silver bezel that fits the Apple CarPlay head unit? I followed this thread and was able to find a newer head unit off Facebook marketplace. I bought the harness from Brian and installed the stereo this weekend. I discovered the standard radio bezel for a 2019 SR5 won’t fit.
