    62 - 9 = 53

53" is my starting point front hanger to shackle pivot using "62" inch deavers

That's with a flat shackle bottom of the frame

62's are more like 61.5" long flattened out

A 12" shackle with a pivot on top of the frame equals about the same swing length as a 9" shackle on the bottom

I seem to get more travel with a 9" but I think a 12" handles payload weight changes a little better because of the working angle leverage of the shackle to the spring at ride height.

I always cycle when setting up springs and leave a little extra length over the flat length of the spring but not much because it's a tight window for full uptravel without too much negative arch if that makes sense.

    * My janky trick to a flat main leaf when setting up leaf springs is c-clamping some 2 x 4's top and bottom of the leaf to hold it flat, usually just needed at the back part of the leaf

** ALL THIS INFO IS BASED AROUND TOP MOUNTED SHACKLES - Inverted shackle geometry (like stock 2nd / 3rd gen Taco shackles) is different

I’ll probably get it at some point if I can get the truck driving reliably. The priority list is a little full at the moment

I really appreciate you coming in with knowledge when you didn’t have to get involved. Your advice was as spot on as anybody could ask for. All was accomplished in about 8 hours yesterday. Just need to move my shocks, build new perches and send it. Currently cycling around 18.5” with shackles about 1/2” forward of vertical. Looks like strapping somewhere in the ball park of 17-18”. Starting point was 15 1/8 and it was tapped out. Pretty big deal. Thanks again.

Lots of things to check to get the most travel from your springs including drive shaft clearance and plunge

Glad you got it worked out. In the end the JD kit is solid? The hangers were just installed in the wrong location? Going to be installing the JD SUA with the frame brace hopefully here in the next month.

I don’t believe anything was located wrong. It fits where it fits. Just found issues I didn’t like with the geometry and corrected them.

Kinda interesting how DMZ wants me to shorten my driveshaft... You would think I would have to lengthen it or get a 2 piece for the added travel...

You get a bunch of plunge at full droop as the axle comes forward.

Yup gonna need a slip yoke with at least 3 inches of plunge. If memory serves me correct I had about 2.65 inches of plunge from full stuff to full droop.

Absolutely stuffed. Will be strapping at 18. A solid 3” gain. Now to see where ride height is.

If I didn’t have 37’s I would go to a 16” shock notch the frame and see 20”. But my tires limit me a ton on my glass. JD shock towers will work just fine so that’s a big bonus to me.

How much is the useful vs useless travel?

my DMZ kit is bumped and strapped at 15.5/16, no frame notch. It perfectly matches the front.

It’ll be strapped when the shackles are at 90 degrees and there is zero negative arch all the way to bump. So it’s actually all pretty much good travel. A 2” notch and boom, 20 with some negative arch.

Sweet nice. I'm on 35’s too. But FWIW, tire size is dumb. This is my 315/70/17 BFG vs a 37 nitto on my wife’s raptor:

I’m pretty sure tire companies think size is a subjective measure.

They do. But these mickeys run pretty true. And my 315’s weren’t far off from 35 new. So perspective… Big Big difference

Kinda like some suspension companies. 17 actually means 15 and so on.
