I actually had it running when I took this picture...

 

I pulled the Tappan emblem and the data sheet off as souvenirs. One of my buddies decoded the data sheet and determined that this is a 2-ton (24,000 BTU unit). According to Zillow, the house it came from is 1,876 square feet. Granted, it is a townhouse with no basement, but I feel like 2 tons is too small for a house of this size in this area...

One of my friends found an original 1976 print ad for literally this exact unit!

 

God those sucked to work on. They've been gone from here for years thankfully. I last replaced one probably 10 years ago.

 

Probably built better than pretty much anything you can get today. The thing was still operational when removed!

The homeowner who gave me the '91 Trane XE800 finally got the air handler out of the attic, and I picked it up this morning...

 

The restaurant owner said this thing is called a Bain Marie; I didn't know that word and had to look it up. Anyway, it was given to me for free because it no longer worked; I quickly found out that there was no refrigerant, and ripped out the compressor almost immediately...

 

You made the right choice lol.

 

Where I recycle, you get more for the coil/radiator if you cut the tin off the ends.

 

I'm buying a Sawzall for that...

 

I took two loads of metal to the scrap yard today, old engines, transmissions, steel beams, and other random stuff. First load was 1000 pounds and second load was 1500 pounds, was a bit disappointed in only getting $150.

 

Anything that isn't nonferrous metal isn't really worth much...

 

I still have a nice pile of aluminum, copper, and electric motors to take.

Battery powered sawzall with Lenox metal demo blade
Bolt cutters- like 16" ones
1/4" nut driver
5/16" Nut driver
1/2" deep socket
12" socket extension
Socket to impact adapter
Impact/drill

Is primarily what I use when scrapping units. Bolt cutters and sawzall do a bunch of quick damage to an AC lol. 1/4 and 5/16 bits on an impact make quick work of the tedious stuff.
