Finally put my tow package to good use the other day and picked up this rusted out NB2 VVT Miata parts car! Perfect donor drivetrain for my 1992 NA project that I'm building. Did a little over 100 miles towing round trip and still managed to get 15mpg in the taco so I'm happy with that.

Got to take her on a 500'ish mile trip while hauling some material in the back. Also tested some mattress moving as well. I'll say this much, the Long Bed held a Queen and a Full at an angle easy-peasy using ratchet straps in an X configuration with the gate down. Also, for those that may need this ODDLY specific information, I was also able to transport a Queen Memory Foam mattress in the bed with the tailgate up and tonneau cover down fully enclosed. With the squish of the memory foam and the length wise compression of ratchets, all closed up nice.

Random "beauty shot" at a warehouse park after one leg of the journey.

Got a shell! Only took a few years to find the right one at a good price. Love the look and security.

opted to keep front open to avoid breaking things.
Truck was climbing up hill where I assume most weight was rear.

    truetrac rear, 35@16psi

I took a bad line. Lesson learned should’ve backed up, lined it up, and then sent it. To be off the clutch, rev, spin the tires, and have some momentum to safely bounce it up.

It was tricky because back up is a cliff teetering on the edge loose ground.

but that experience def showed me there may be a place for:
-longer rear shocks for better contact
    -radio for spotter
    -crawlbox

    or more realistic
    -hand throttle

and potentially bump start it. Heard about it. Don’t know if it’s only water.
    Might practice it first.
    Basically idea is this:

    -clutch start cancel
    -brake, 1st gear
-turn the key so truck starts climbing without clutch
-immediately get on the gas and spin tire
    -might avoid rollback
-pray the stock starter is up to that

    I mean simple version
Basically climbing up a wall the truck needed more momentum to bounce its way up

maybe a front locker would’ve helped but too late. Theres folks who do without it.

honestly if someone is at a shop and not trying to breathe that, water and drain bucket.
Done that on calipers. Spray water, degreaser, brush it clean and then rinse it off. That cuts down on the dust. Water catches it rather than going airborne with compressed air that has warnings to not use around the brake system.

even if over the years they switched to different materials in brake systems, it’s still not recommended to breathe.

Better do a deep inspection on the bumper frame and supports. They are most likely toast.

Greased my driveshaft and JBA UCAs today. I also lubricated the inner/outer tie rod ends and swaybar end links with white lithium grease injected into the boots with a syringe. I then cleaned them with some 303 protectant and sealed the puncture holes with RTV silicone.

I just measured lol. It’s 4” of clearance and I’ve got a 7’ garage. I’m on an OME heavy pack with the 2nd overload leaf removed in the rear and on 295/70r17’s
