Hey Connecticut, our backs hurt

I fucking HATE medical insurance bullshit, and as a matter of fact that is one of the main reasons my old man is moving back to Portugal once his retirement stuff is all sorted out.

Scheduled my MRI for my back as requested by the back ortho, for this coming Wednesday. Saturday afternoon I get call from the MRI place saying the insurance denied it, but to keep the appointment since the doc "appeals it" and it might still get approved.

Get a call this morning saying it's denied, not sure if the doc "appealed it" or not, but after speaking to a bunch of people doesn't sound like he did it yet. Call the insurance, they said the doc has to do a "reconsideration" or a "peer to peer" with the insurance. Called the doc, left a message for the secretary, who returned my call and said the doc is in surgeries today and is not in the office and she hadn't received anything from the department that handles the denials. She said she was going to call that person, so I asked to be transferred to her as well so I could hopefully help push this shit along. Haven't heard back from her, haven't heard from the doc's secretary, but just got a call from the MRI place again about it and basically told me I had to reschedule it unless I was going to pay out of pocket.

So I rescheduled it for this Saturday at 7:45am in hopes this shit gets sorted out ASAP so I can have it done.

But we all know how this is going to end... They're going to deny it, gonna make me do physical therapy and all sorts of other bullshit again that's not really going to help determine why it keeps happening and help fix the problem, and more time is gonna go by with me in pain and it happening again and again, and nothing is ever gonna get solved.

I fucking hate this shit. So pissed right now.

 

My wife and a significant number of her friends work in healthcare. & my MBA minor is in healthcare. The state of medical insurance here is an absolute disaster for everyone except those at the top of or who have significant stakes in the large corporations and companies that control the industry. And it leaves the rest of us to suffer.

Been largely absent from tw dealing with my own bs. Will probably continue for the foreseeable future until I figure some stuff out. I try to check in when I can.

For the most part yea, doing ok. Dealing with some things “professionally“. Still employed but not happy, and the job market is nuts. It’s also only been a couple weeks, but still. Pretty distracted at the moment. Appreciate you both checking in.

Luckily I am blessed with a strong support system including an an amazing wife and kids. And Dennis who is willing to listen to me bitch at 1030 on a random Thursday night (thanks man).

 

Been there fairly recently, still not 100% happy but I made a jump a couple weeks ago that was definitely a step in the right direction. Best of luck in whatever you end up choosing to do

I'm not saying socialized health care is better, because I've seen and experienced it first hand being Portuguese and having lived there, gone there, and still having family there that have to deal with it... But it's free so you kind of have to "expect" this sort of shit from it. But not when you're paying high premiums for it. Health insurance ain't cheap, even when your employer "covers" some of the cost.

If a doctor says or asks for something, it's because he/she knows what the best course of action is, and/or what is needed to diagnose and treat the patient. Who the fuck is some pencil pusher to deny it and say it's either not needed, not necessary or not the right thing to do?

Unfucking believable. I still can't get over the fact that a stupid MRI got denied. Makes no sense to me, regardless of what "reasoning" they have or come up with. And to add to that... Does it really make sense to "waste" insurance money by having me go through what I already did (PT, etc) and not fix the problem to then just need to and have to do an MRI in the end anyway? Do they even think of it in that sense?

I'm so so fucking mad. This is ridiculous. I could be here all night ranting about this shit. I'm fuming.

 

Over 2 decades in the field and it's getting worse. It's not so much insurance, it's the whole system. Some of the things I see parts of that system able to get away with sicken me.

 

That sounds just like what happened to me. It was a back and forth between the doctor and the insurance company. When a treatment was finally approved an appointment was made and that was weeks to months out. I was out of work for two years because of the BS.

Going to replace the hazard switch light bulb on lunch today. After work I have to look at my BIL car, again. Headlight adjustment, so nothing too bad.

Morning gents. Looks like a pretty decent day today weather wise.

 

Ugh ,that sucks . I know the feeling. I waited almost 3 months for approval of a steroid injection in my SI joint . I was in so much pain I could barely put my clothes on . Peer to peer is what seems to be the normal now for approval on most expensive stuff . Was a few weeks for my MRI of my cervical spine. May 8 I get the injections. Got approved for another MRI pretty quick for my head . The side of my face along with my shoulder and neck get tingly and numb and the neurosurgeon says the face should not get numb from the bone spurs and issues with my neck so they want the head MRI . I did have a tree limb fall on my head last April . Knocked me right to the ground . CAT scan showed no damage
