It takes like 5 minutes to drain some out.

    Maybe.
But I'd rather not spend 5 mins on something I'm not worried about.

If you're worried about it. Drain some out.
    Me, I'm not.

A shortcut, you could unscrew the filter, let a little drain out, screw it back on, check the dip stick, repeat until you’re happy.

Well if I do anything I would unscrew the filter a little (clever I ,never had a top filter before) Any answers on my other question on the 2018 4-runner front shocks fitting on my 2013 Taco ! * they were a freebie takeoff from a friends new 4-runner just wondered if they might fit ?

He's probably irritated because his customers are bringing their own oil for him to change for cheap. ;)

Hopefully you're paying him some extra labor

Oil changes already don't pay shit, even more so when customers start bringing their own stuff.
it's just an obstacle standing between him and better work he would rather be doing

Since it's approx 1 qt between the marks on dip stick and 5.5 qts is full 5 qts should be half way between the 2 marks.... at least that's where mine shows it.

B_R_O First: I don't bring my own stuff & have spent thousands & referred as many customers to my Mechanic & 3 years ago I traded 4-500.00 + worth of gear lubes ,racing oil other new petroleum products for labor to clear my garage. But you know the saying the hooker gets paid first because the service is quickly forgotten. We'll we're even now sort of. Thanks for the input.

Offroad Toy: The oil level reads a good quart above the full mark & first time I've never changed my own oil because I had a change credit. The only reason I was asking about this is that I've never owned a top filter before & thought maybe there was something I didn't understand about the stick reading ? Oh well ,think I have a handle on it now . Thanks for the input

I always appreciate help & opinions , have an open mind to everyone ! I still curious if I can use some 2018 front 4-runner struts on my 2013 Taco . They were a gift & new takeoffs . I'm not cheap but they were kicking around the shop I'm trying to clean up ? Thanks

Yep. If I owned a shop it would be policy that no outside parts/fluids from customers would be accepted for use.

I traded my mechanic over 4-$500.00 worth of racing oils , multiple weight cases of oil & lubes for (3) oil changes ! I would say he had nothing to complain about ! I never bring my own parts ...just for the record !

If oil is overfilled the most common method to reduce is sucking some out through the dipstick tube.

whether that be with a manual pump
    Or pneumatic
    Such as a Mityvac

A few additions to make me feel cool.
We have put the oil question to bed. Now let's move on to shocks! First question will be what year is the 4-runner? I assume it's a 5th gen. If it is a 5th gen then from what I understand is that the lower shock mounting tabs on the Tacoma are more narrow then what in on the LCA of the 4Runner. Due to that it is not a direct fit. I am sure you could bend the tabs or something on the LCA but I am doubtful you want to do that. You could use the top hat and coil spring form the new ones and just have the shocks swapped for the correct ones for the Tacoma I would imagine. Any off-road shop could do this so you start the project with a set of complete coil overs and it makes this a simple swap out the old with the new. I have not tried this but from what I have read that is the deal with those. Feel free to take anyone's advise who has tried it or has actual experience trying this over my perspective though.
