Next best bed mat?

Mine is for the 6' bed, as I understand the word, there was a 5' short bed, the 6' on the SR series, and possibly a longer bed on some other model as an option.

I ordered a new ARE cap for the 5' bed on 12/5 and it is still in fabrication as of 2/27/24.

I have the Dee Zee mat standing up in the garage, not installed yet.
Thieves here steal everything that is not locked up or nailed down, or protected with a catalytic converter cage.

If I put the mat into the open bed, it will be gone within a few days.
The thieves patrol the neighborhood constantly, looking for open cars, or things left in the truck beds.
CA allows thieves to steal anything they want, which is why the mat is still in the garage.

From what I see of the mat in its rolled up form, it is the same heavy duty quality as the mat I put into my 1991 so many years ago.

The Dee Zee part number DZ86964 is the correct one for my 6' bed.

 

I realized Dee Zee is the same mat I have in my 2004 Mazda, and that one is just as good when I put it in 14 years ago. Seriously heavy duty and "grippy". The description was vague on whether it was the long one, but based on the reviews and the part number, I went ahead and ordered it. FWIW, it said it was the "last one" when I placed the order, but it looks like they still have them.

How do you know when they go on sale?

 

I spoke with my dealership last week and was told the OEM 6 foot bed mats would be available at the end of the month.

I guess it is worth making a call next week.

I checked with my local Toyota a couple weeks ago for a 5' mat..they quoted $150!!! Ordered an Amazon mat for $90 instead. Rubber is rubber.

 

But the word "Tacoma" in the mat will give 10 extra horsepower!

In general i agree with you. I believe the DeeZee 6 foot mat I have is better than OEM for a few reasons I have stated previously ad nauseam.
To be minimally helpful, I was about to post an Amazon link to what I have, or the equivalent, and noticed, though they still say "heavy duty" the weight is less (previously >30lbs vs <25lbs for the one i looked at now) so maybe new models getting thinner??? see edit below.

its a jungle out there. do your homework. You may still get a good deal on a great mat that does not say "tacoma" on it.

I'd check all specs on amazon and ebay before assuming OEM is the best. It was not for me but that was 6 years ago and 1/2 the price being charged now.

...and get the keepa price tracker app/browser plugin so you know if price is temporarily high or low...especially on amazon. It will also notify you when an item matches your sales price criteria, to know when there is a price drop. just fyi.

Edit: the weight difference bothered me so I rechecked. I was accidentally comparing my 6 foot mat weight to a 5 foot mat weight. Be more careful than me! I'll leave the original comparison since it points out one spec to be careful with...weight. and i would not be surprised if there are overpriced lighter mats out there...keep an eye out.

After being out of stock for months, RealTruck has the 6ft Gator mat back in stock. I got one last week. Seems perfectly fine for $100. The fedex tracking info said the package was 43lbs, so it's heavy duty. It just came wrapped in plastic, so almost all that 43lbs was the mat itself.

 

I am returning my Amazon purchase to get those extra hrsssprsss! : )

I chatted with my local dealer this week and they had no idea if/when the long bed mats would be in stock. DeeZee option also seems to be out of stock everywhere at the moment. Us long bed folks are SOL right now haha

 

I did a google search and i found the excellent 6 foot mat i purchased in 2018 ($72 shipped at that tiime). DeeZee 86964 but it is now about $184.
It appears to still be available at that price. Fuck them. Get a horse stall mat and cut it up for cheap but effective.

From the video it looks lighter than the DeeZee but may be fine. also has no ribs. But price much more reasonable. mostly good reviews.

 

Smell is not as bad as I expected, I have a soft cover and haven't felt the need to let it air out. It flattened out nicely too. I agree the Northern Tool one looks better and it may be. But for my use I'd rather have the $16.

I just now saw this part of ur post. The Gator ships free. Mine did and the the product video in the listing states free shipping. If it shows shipping when u check out. I'm sure they will waive it. Mine came to like $109 delivered. The $9 was tax.
