All these lights need to be attached to your brain and used when needed. Running around with your fogs on all the time is the true problem.

Yes but no, yes you shouldn't run your fogs all day everyday. But no you should still be running a light with proper cut off for street use.
Also a sharp cut off fog light just simply works better as an actual fog light by reducing glare. It might be best if you use that brain when making a purchase to make sure it properly suits the purpose.

Selective yellow will cut through fog, snow, dust, rain, ect better than white. Diode Dynamics SS3 Pro and Max versions will get hot enough to melt snow. The sports won't. The Max versions have a much cleaner cutoff line the Pros.

    SS3 pro sae fog

Verdict is even with the additional up light of the pro it's still a far better fog light that's actually street legal when aimed correctly.

Don’t like DD products at all, but I do like my Rigid 360 yellow fogs. They are not super bright, but they are a fog and aren’t supposed to be.

The DD SS3 Max I had at one point had ridiculous radio interference that made unlocking the truck just about impossible from 5 or more feet.

Yeah, it was really bad. I figured I was just unlucky, until I did some research and found a decent amount of people say the same on other forums. DD’s suggestion is to put ferrite chokes on the wires, which to me was a crap response because the lights cost something like $580 if I remember right, and at the bare minimum, they should provide those to fix the problem, not tell me to go get some….so I was a bit pissed out of principle. But it was my opinion that the lights shouldn’t have had that problem to begin with. And it seems like most don’t, but mine definitely did. It affected both radio signal (which I never use the radio) and locking/unlocking (which is a problem because auto headlights leaves them on, and I leave the fogs flipped to on).

I had problems with some of their bulbs also prior to that, so the SS3 were the final straw for me and I gave up and sent them back. They did have a nice brightness to them, no doubt.

Absolutely this. Super easy to remove the lights and apply the film on the bench.

New OEM led fogs are not expensive, available on AMZ.

    Hey @tapatio23,

Looking to upgrade your current fog lights for better illumination on the road? Look no further than Baja Designs, where we offer two convenient plug-and-play options.

First up is our SAE fog pocket kit, available in both amber and clear variants. These utilize our cutting-edge SAE optic technology, providing a precise cutoff for controlled light distribution. Perfect for navigating through challenging conditions like dust, fog, or adverse weather, these lights are a great choice for those who primarily drive on roads with occasional off-road ventures.

Alternatively, consider our Squadron Sport fog pocket kit, also offered in amber and clear options. What sets these apart is their versatility—they allow for easy lens swapping to tailor the light output to your specific driving needs. While not street legal, these lights are ideal for off-road enthusiasts or those residing in low-light areas seeking enhanced visibility during nighttime adventures.

I run the DD ss3 DOT approved ones. They are bright as hell, actually overpower my headlights and they throw light way off the the sides as well which i personally really like. Highly recommend them

Baja Designs makes some killer SAE DOT legal fog kits, best output and quality on the market. Diode Dynamics are nice too, but I be heard of some radio interference issues.

To the idiots running fog lights in tandem with headlights on their morning commute, turn them shits off. This level of “look at me” makes society despise this community.

I have a buddy who keeps a handful of nickels in his cup holder for these types of commuters, says “they’ll enjoy the peppering as much as i enjoyed being blinded”…and i have heard that level of resentment from many people too.

Fog lights are not blinding. They have an even lower beam than headlights. If people having fog lights on is a problem for other drivers, then they have the wrong lights installed as fog lights. This was exactly why Baja Designs original “SAE” fogs were trash.

your buddy is an asshole unless he only does that to people who have blinding lights.

“Fog lights are not blinding”-yes, factory fogs are not too bright, but most aftermarket are not SAE DOT compliant(brighter than allowable per DOT). I run the SAE BD because of legality and occasional usage. Never heard of Baja Designs as being “trash”, they are known in the off-road community as being the best(hence why many people run them). “Trash” just means “out of my price range” apparently.
People who run overpowered lights on the street are just inconsiderate to all others on the road. That is the main point.
This may not be an issue in BFE Texas, but in Cali i see multiple people on my morning commute with light bars/“yellow lights” on the freeway(no fog).
My buddy is a true asshole, he even has the merit badge to prove it.

The original fog from Baja was not a good light. So much to the point that they offered upgrades when the new one was released. The new ones look very promising though I would be very interested in trying them but not curious enough to drop that kind of cash when mine work.

No, you don’t understand what a fog light truly is. It’s a low and wide beam meant to illuminate under the fog. Has nothing to do with the factory fogs being bright or not. To maintain being a true fog light, they need to meet the SAE standards for a fog light. Baja Designs did NOT meet this criteria yet continued to market them as fog lights anyways. Trash. That whole debacle is why they (BD) rereleased them 3 years later and offered free upgrades to the new version. It wasn’t out of generosity, it was because what they put out originally sucked for its intended purpose.

Price has nothing to do with it, I spent more on Rigid than I would have on Baja and the same applies for DD.

I run my fogs with the headlights because there is no downside to doing so. Had I chosen a poorly built light that didn’t act as a fog correctly, then I wouldn’t do so, but then again I wouldn’t have chosen a light like that anyways. So mine will stay on with headlights and continue to not blind others. The different color makes me more visible which I see as a pro and a reason to keep them on.

In 2019, Baja Designs introduced the first GEN SAE light for those seeking an upgraded fog light option that was compliant with SAE standards. In 2023 we decided to revamp this fog light and create the SAE 2.0. This upgraded light version utilizes integrated aspheric projector optics that are different from the original. The SAE 2.0 's optics allow more light output, providing a sharper vertical cut-off and achieving zero vertical spills. This upgrade ensures that other drivers do not experience the often irritating experience of being blinded by another vehicle's fog lights. The first GEN SAE lights did not live up to the standards we pride ourselves on, so we offered customers who had purchased the first GEN SAE a free upgrade on their lights. Our goal is always to create quality products and for our customers to experience our latest technology.

    Best,
    Bill
