My taco has the Toyota Safety Sense suite including the pre collision system (PCS). I'm new to this kind of function and feel like the system is riding the brake ahead of my normal braking. I also assume it's activating the brake lights, but haven't had someone confirm. I don't want to become dependent on PCS or to put excessive wear on the brakes. Any thoughts?

    Welcome to TW!

Curious as to why your PCS activates so much. In my 3G, I can count on one hand the number of times it interceded on my behalf. Mine is 2018 with 91K miles. Things might have changed in the broke gen.

As to the longevity of your brakes. I am still on my first pads with plenty of material left. My guess is your pads will do just as well. Just confused as to why your PCS is lighting up that often. Maybe a check out at the dealer for re-calibration?

Are u braking to late or driving to closely to the vehicle in front of you ? I know on the 3rd gen u can change the sensitivity to the system . Might want to look in the manual to see if it has an option on the 4th gen .

You'll get a warning chime and a big "BRAKE" message in the gauge cluster if PCS kicks in. You're probably feeling the truck downshifting for engine braking. Are you new to Tacomas in general? They've been doing that since 2005.

Your brake light activation shows in the bottom part of your speedo/tach screen. It lights up as 2 red lines when your brake lights are on. I've had the same feeling as you...but the brakes aren't been applied nearly as often as i thought.

Some great input. I'm new to tacomas and these kinds of "assists". What I'm sensing is like having a second driver on the controls a half second ahead of me. I'd only had the beep come on once and will play with the sensitivity adjustment as I run some tests this week. I hadn't thought if the system downshifting/ engine braking so will look for that.

The 4g has a newer version TSS 3.0 vs TSS-P on the 3g. I think the OP is describing the Proactive Driving Assist feature which does what he is explaining. I think you can adjust the settings for PDA. This video explains it pretty well

OP, p275 of your manual describes PDA. P.265 describes the overall settings you can customize. Looks like you can only turn PDA on/off.
