Dutch Shepherd with a sprinkle of pit bull for flavor. Dutchies are basically Malinois who did a stint in Juvie..

I knew it wasn't pure Dutch that's why I asked. As you can see my soldier is Malinois. Turns 4 in July. Next week going to due a stint in camp with her trainer. Because we are going away and can't trust anyone else to watch her because of the activity level.:rofl:.

Hell yeah! My girl just turned 3 two weeks ago.. Lol yeah I can only board her with my trainer. She would probably make a normal boarder cry. Nice thing is he only charges me $25 a day and gives her work to do and slatmill time. We call it camp also lol

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!
    100% agree.

I have friends that have lost dogs that have said they don't know if they can do a dog again. I guess that's OK for them. But I can't understand it.

Losing a dog sucks. Losing Jasper sucks worse than all of the others I've lost. Seriously, there's about 8 Billion people on this planet and I can only think of, maybe, 20 that I care about as much as I cared about Jasper. BUT, I don't think there will ever be a day in my life I don't have a dog.

Jasper occupied a space in my (our) life that can never be replicated. Not only was he the absolute most well behaved, kind, gentle, affectionate and bone headed dog... He came to us when my son's were just growing up. He was there to see all three of my son's go off to war. And he was, thankfully, there to see them all return home safe. He was the one common thing, from home, they all thought of at night in Basic Training or when they were deployed. Most of the time being one of the first things they asked about when they called home.

Again... Losing him sucks. But it doesn't suck to the point the 15 years we had with him doesn't more than make up for it.

    His favorite spot.

This little guy is taking it hard too. He absolutely adored Jasper. He was Jasper's little shadow.

100% understand why someone would say they don't think they could have another dog. It's a loss like no other but one day, maybe not tomorrow or even next month, it will be OK to have another.

Im really sorry about losing Jasper.

My girl Callie is still hanging on, lung cancer, but its such a roller coaster. Good days are great - she's happy and mobile, but the bad days are like "oh no is this the last day" awful.

I worry if I am keeping her around too long out of selfishness but I know when she is happy and when she is not and shes still "in there" happiness-wise. Eating, going for (shorter, slower) walks.

Ya, I know what you mean. I've been there a few times. Just give her as much love as you can, while you can.

I posted my rescue Tucker (post 34138) at 8 months old.
He’s grown at about full size now, about 100 pounds. This Newfoundland/Lab is menacing to look at but he’s just a big puppy. He wants FRIENDS!!!!

It's a combination of what they're able to do and whether they are comfortable and not suffering. And those hints the vet helps you understand.

You want them to live forever but realistically, that cannot be. I remember going to the vet for one of Riley's regular checkups. He was getting older so the vet suggested a set of X-Rays that showed a mass on his spleen. They biopsied it and discovered it was cancerous. At his age, chemo wasn't really an option. He developed a couple of cancerous lumps as well. I remember her saying he'd be OK for a while but when he starts to have trouble posturing to poop, I'd know. When that day came, I didn't really want to admit it. But I was glad his vet prepared me.

    Tucker is a great name!

This is our little Tucker. He's "helping" me edit a YouTube video

    20220925_110455.jpg

We think he's part Patterdale Terrier and something that doesn't shed. We found him half starved, dumped on the side of the road in the country (people fucking suck).

I tell him he would have been Coyote food all the time

    20221124_204334.jpg

The white dog in the background was also found dumped in my father in law's orchard as a puppy... wasn't kidding, I hate people.

Tucker isn't spoiled at all though.

We had her to the vet a couple of times with mild coughing and shortness of breath at the beginning of the year and then like 8 weeks ago they did X-rays and her whole right lung was filled with tumors. Way past time to have done anything.

The vet told us the signs to look out for as she gets worse.

Its truly breaking my heart. But not hers. Shes happy as a clam a lot of the time...completely oblivious except for the physical limitations she's experiencing. Just trying to live in the moment, working from home a lot fortunately. Either my wife or I are her with her all the time.

He's really having a tough time right now.

He wouldn't leave Jasper's side after Jasper passed. When Jen picked him up, because Brennen and I had to take Jasper to the car to take him to the vet (to be cremated). Tucker was shaking badly. Tucker is too young to have been around a dog that has passed, and he was VERY fond of Jasper.

Tucker keeps looking around, and last night he just kept chirping at us, and scratching our hands to have us pet him.

Hopefully he'll get back to normal shortly.

    Shit that's really sad

Was worried about that with Biscuit cause he's the only dog she's ever known; oddly enough she hasn't really been much different (just thankful for it)
