One of the crossings I did but not the group in AR was about like that. Wish a camera had gotten it… still chastising myself for that bit of stupid!

Dang that sucks. That's probably related to that recall for the rear trailing arm where they put a Band-aid brace on it and pray that it holds. Big part of the reason I sold mine (along with worries about specific issue affecting the 2010 models with bad piston rings). RIP CR-V.

Aw man! That’s not what anybody really wants when they say drive it till the wheels fall off.

I suspect there maybe nothing to weld onto anything…. Was the recall Adam mentioned a corrosion related thing?

Maybe this is an “opportunity” to weld up a frame under the whole thing like the XJ unibodies. Then again, not every door of opportunity should be opened.

Yes I think it's necessary. I bet you'd get $5k for that rust bucket on CraigsFaceMarket. Spray with Woolwax and you'll get $6k. It's just science.

Yeah so the recall and the "fix" are basically this cheezy ass little support bracket that reinforces mounting bolts for the rear trailing arms to the unibody. The problem begins with captured nuts inside the trailing arm that are only tack welded on and the rust eats the welds leading to your nuts taking a permanent vacation. No welding possible since the nuts are inside the arms. Could you cut it all apart and re-do it? Yes. Could you also get your ass sued off if you do that repair and then crash into someone? Yes. Probably not worth doing really. Honda won't even do the "fix" unless they deem the condition of your arms as being good and not rusty. Lots of salty owners who brought their CR-V in for the fix and ended up having Honda take them off the road permanently with no option out and cutting a low-ball buyout. Moral of the story is don't buy a 3rd gen CR-V nowadays, they are not worth it.

Here is the cute little brace "fix" that is about as strong as the brackets that hold my shock reservoirs on the Taco:

Edit: @pearing - maybe some sunshine to break up the CR-V clouds...if it's dead, you can salvage the K24 under that hood and transplant it into some kind of truggy, or maybe a sandrail. Or maybe a snow crawler with tank tracks? Tons of aftermarket support for that motor and adapters to other trans configs. Get your little sweat shop elves to start bending some tubes!
