I don't think so at all. You can debate if the Ridgeline qualifies as a true truck or not, but for the vast majority of buyers the Ridgeline provides all of the truck capabilities needed. Interior space is larger than the Tacoma and the way the rear seats, bed and bed trunk are set up provides more storage options than a Tacoma as well.

If you are looking at off-roading, and I mean true off-roading, then the Ridgeline is out of the question.

I am not saying I want a Ridgeline over a Tacoma, but my original comment was articulating that there is no denying the way Honda options their vehicles is much more streamlined than the configuration options Toyota has for their vehicles.

    Because T
because Toyota, is like Apple, they won’t release it until it’s done correctly, the first time. And you still have zero argument to the actual resale value between the two vehicles when the Tacoma clearly crushes it in resale value, which means you get much more for your buck from beginning to end

I'm not a fan of the inflation arguments on the price of new trucks. But if the truck cost you 38k in 2018 and you sell it for 34k in 2024 I think anyone would sign up for that after 50k miles. But 38k adjusted for inflation in 2024 is 48k so did it cost you 4k or 14k?

Toyota maybe unfairly bagged on here. They had turbos at least a decade before Ford bothered. Just not the kind or place someone wants is dicing it fine. Crawl control, KDSS and whatever is missing from my memory cells. Does Ford have those yet? Genuinely dunno. And who am I kidding, don't really care.

Not making any claims or arguments about resale value. Just stating the obvious.

On homes in a good market it usually exceeds it..... With few exceptions cars are not assets.

That exercise was interesting, and something no one mentions when touting the resale of a vehicle...

It's almost as interesting as those the past few years touting the value of their vehicles on trade in while giving that money back paying too much for a new car and feeling like they won....lol

OK, maybe I have my head in the sand. But, every once in a while I lift my head up. Look around and compare. Nope. Back in the sand the head goes.

I can get over it that the Ranger Raptor looks like ass. I normally spend time over the steering wheel. But, the utter stupidity of that vertical screen I will not get over because It IS Right There In My FaCe. Then it has stiff hips. There is only one set of stiff hips on the trail and it better not be the truck. And then I compare all the features that I and I alone consider important. I don't care about quarter mile times. I care if I stop. I don't care about paddle shifters.

Just that one video where the dude seems like he is having a blast in the TH sealed the deal for me. And yeah, I am seriously phucked in the hed. But, gonna do it anyway.

I'll take that bet, my home value has exceeded it and then some when you run the cost of purchase thru the CPI and weigh it against current appraisal. ...... A car may hold value, but it is diminishing value from the day you bought it and with few exceptions will it ever be worth more than the day you bought it...or I should say, if you kept it long enough and inflation grew fast enough, you could one day see a return. Even on some older "classic" cars when you run the dollars thru the inflation calculator even they are sometimes not as good as it looks on the face of it.

Take a 1965 Mustang for instance, and a simple scenario, You bought it for $2,427 new adjust it for inflation its $23,271...sell it for 23K and there are those that would say...man you did well on that one....lol

But as said in the excesses above...when most people look at I bought if for this much 5 years ago and I sold it for this much so it only cost me this much to own it.....they don't take into account the diminished value of that same dollar 5 years in.

They do however take that into account when paying more for an item. I find it interesting.

No one...or at least not me are saying that the Tacoma is not one of the best at retaining its value, it is and has been one of the top vehicles and the reason why some people buy them. I just found that experiment earlier interesting because you never hear the reverse of that scenario.

I'd have to respectively disagree, all the dealers have fuck-ups including toyota. The RR is far more value based than the tacoma trims offered now.

Since you’re critical of the math I could give it to you in the money I haven't spent in over two years of ownership compared to if it was a Gasser, but you’d prolly parallel it to some kind of Elon savings.

I will tell you that money we haven’t spent on Fuel or maintenance has been a wash with the payment on our Tesla. But….Elon math so YMMV.

You're probably the only person I've seen that is okay with Toyota's screen! Well I like it too, I like both trucks I'm no hater.

I have on other raptors and the clash doesn't bother me, I think it looks great. All black would have been nice and Katskin will probably offer a kit anyways if it bothers you too much. Iso-dynamic seats would drive me nuts though....lol

So if you bought a house 11 years ago for $100K running that thru an inflation calculator puts it about 134K...and you sold it for 400k would you not say that asset not only matched but exceeded the rate of inflation...

Sure there are other factors that change value etc, but in simple what you paid for an item and what your dollar was worth vs what you sold an item for and what the buying power of your dollar is I would say that exceeded it no?

Yes.. a depreciating asset as is almost every single other item you buy...lawn mowers, tractors weed eaters etc....

Why is accounting for higher prices on lets say a vehicle not a fools errand when you use the..its inflation as the reasoning if you cannot apply the same principle to the sale of the depreciating asset.

The best example and way to demonstrate this is I think you should take 200K and buy vehicles, I will take 200k and buy real estate, come back to this thread in 5 years and see what's what....lol

The only brand I refuse is GM. I seriously considered the Gladiator when it first came out. The hate on the 4G and love for the RR on this board, I just don't get it. I mean the RR looks like ass. Right off the bat, you are presented with ass.

    Edit: :D
