Flying up to Oregonia with the family here in a bit, going to see my pops and grandmother so she can meet River. Luckily it's a relatively short flight because the Idea of flying with a 6 mo old and 4 year old is giving me panic already

Haha thanks for the reminder, I put it in our checked bag a little bit ago so I'll have it when we land. Wouldn't be a good first impression with TSA PreCheck to take it through security

I've thought about it myself too, career change from engineering to pilot. First step is getting your license, building hours, then usually getting certified to run twin engine craft. There's a lot that goes into it, and certainly and endless list of accidents both commercial and private to dog through to learn root cause to then learn to avoid. I stay pretty informed on that side of things and find it rather interesting. In some ways being an investigator for the NTSB would be interesting.

My dream is to one day get my license and build my own plane (kitfox). Something very rewarding in that for me, and they sell those kits just across the valley. I could actually afford to jump into a license now, but would require selling my van to do so, so for now I'll keep adding ours each week in the sim.

shoot I got about 10 hours with instructor 10 years ago and it was about $1200, looking at the flight school near me, the current cost for 20 hours with instructor is about $5k... their basic license package is $10k

I have never dug into it much but does that price include rental fees as well?

I'm gonna let you guys decide but for my 'centerpiece' fish, what would you guys choose -

    Dwarf Gourami

    w4h9pmet-720.jpg

    or Honey Gourami

    Dwarf-Honey-Red-Gourami-Fish.jpg

The Dwarf variant can come in some sort of blue (with orange) but varies quite a bit whereas the Honey can be a little more gold or a little more orange (fiery) looking

    Based on what?

You could fly single prop cargo or all the way up to multi engines. I don't think it's a fixed cost across the board.

I work 10 hours a day in a ship that averages like 120 degrees because there's no ventilation... Speaking Spanish would make it easier to stay here doing jobs like this

21 bucks an hour and it's one one of the higher paying jobs out here

I need to leave this hell hole regardless but I need to save 6k more... want 15k saved before I go off Into the great beyond

One thing I can admire is how you've worked hard non-stop for some years now

Don't forget to take a breather though or else you'll be old and in pain all the time

Gotta take care of yourself too

That’s what United’s program charges anyway but I’m sure you could do it for much cheaper.

I think it's a noble goal but you would have a long road ahead of you both on the pilot training and preparing for the psych eval. Training might correct that, but right now, your indecisive nature, inability to trust the information in front of you and challenge being able to think three steps ahead would need serious work from what you have demonstrated here in several occasions. Don't mean it in a discouraging way, but it is a very real thing when it comes to flying.

It's killed many people over the years and will continue to kill them. Weather is bordering minimums, but too indecisive to cut losses and redirect. Then they stop trusting their gauges in low visibility, even though the obvious data is in front of them. So now you're wondering how I am going to craft the metaphor for not thinking 3 steps ahead ahead? Well if pilots had thought ahead they wouldn't get themselves in that situation, know the weather could turn, having an alternative in mind, planning what criteria they need before the commit to rejecting their original plan, etc. Never is it one decision that kills you.
