If it takes hours on a battery tender, or charger, how long would you think you would have to drive to fully charge a low battery? LOL! The alternator is not made to restore, and fully charge the battery. That is what battery chargers are for. With our trucks hooked to the mothership (Toyota), XM, gps, smart key fob, door locks, the motor for venting the evap canister 5 hours after you shut the truck off, etc... there is a lot of parasitic draw on our trucks, and most newer cars. Everyone should be putting their trucks on a tender/charger every 6-8 weeks, for maintenance. a topped off fully charged battery lasts longer than one left in the mid to low high charge state. I’m assuming you are responding to me. A rough estimate of how long it takes to fully recharge a battery after a start is 15m. I would qualify that as a short trip, but others might not. In any case, you would have to repeatedly take many trips less than 15 minutes before running the battery out of charge.

Im not skeptical that a short trip doesn’t tax the battery. I’m skeptical that it is something to worry about in practice.

    https://electronics.stackexchange.c...take-to-recharge-a-car-battery-after-starting

caveat: I think the 15m estimate is on the high side because a taco starts in less than 3s.

Car batteries are finicky things no matter who makes or sells them! You hear stories like the OPs and then someone pops in and says they got 7 years out of the same one? There are just so many variables at play, including sometimes shit just happens to pin an accurate life expectancy to them all. I personally don't trust past 5 years!

Much truth, then and now. I had a battery 30 years ago bought new that lasted a year. The one my Tacoma came with lasted me about 10 years, no hard start until one day it didn't start at all in a cold snap.

Hell, my wife's old Rav4 got 11 on the original battery. Wouldn't start once so I jumped it and it hopped right back, but at the time we'd had it a few years so she said just PM do the battery. Upon removing the old one I discovered how old it was.

I also have a 22 off road and at 15k miles the dealership replaces my battery under warranty. I’ve got about another 10k miles on the new battery I think but it seems like it is starting to go too. I have checked for parasitic drain but nothing is popping up. I had a 16 sport. I think I changed the battery on that at about 75k miles. I’m thinking next battery will be aftermarket and hopefully for a longer life span.

Hardly. My jeep was brand new off the lot in 2016, still have it, still going strong on its original factory battery with no issues.

Opposite. My jeep is my daily and I use the Taco for long trips and when I need the use of a truck.
    And that was a typo. I am at 25k miles. / 420000km.

My truck (2014) just got its fourth battery, three months short of its tenth birthday. Has had two Toyota batteries and in Interstate. Now a second Interstate. The two Toyotas were about 2-1/2 years each - and the Interstate the champ at almost 5. All have had the same life environment - hellish temps in southern AZ. It has only averaged about 10K miles per year and while I have an onboard air system installed (regulated to 20 amps), it has never been used with the engine off.
I believe the problem has to do with all of the stupid "nanny" missions programmed into the operating system - that occur with the ignition "OFF".

Replaced battery at 12k when I had my 2017.
Replaced the battery at 14K on my 2022.

    Annoying, but warranty covered.

I had an x2 27F agm die on me recently at 2 years. BatteriesPlus covered as a warranty, just the hassle to drop it off and pick up the replacement once they took a day to evaluate it.

my ‘16 came off the transport truck (in 2020, I bought it used) with a dead lead acid battery. It now has the battery from my ‘05 which was super fresh (bought that one used in 2022). I have an aux battery and RedArc to feed it. Thinking about migrating the radio power over to the aux battery as well, so I can run it for the kids without alternator on and not care about charge levels.

Something nice about a dedicated starter battery and an AGM aux battery to me. Separation of duties and redundancy (can jump off the aux when needed)

oh that sucks! I won't be using them. Seems just a way to deter people from actually using their warranty.

This was "needed" due to the battery being completely dead. Nice thing with MT is I could still push start it, but they wanted to toss it on the charger for a day before checking it. I would give them a thumbs up for service, they honored the warranty straight up, no problems. Nice for me that I have multiple vehicles and I even have a spare AGM (group 31) but didn't want to put it into service b/c it's so darn big.

I have no real complaints about batteries plus to be honest. I suspect under "normal" conditions they could do an immediate swap once they verify it's having trouble holding charge.

Yeah, I had the fluid out of the clutch and I needed to move it asap because my neighbors were coming through with a truck and trailer. We share a driveway. Anyway, it started the taco but died when I tried to start it again.

It was creeping I’m sure, so I went and got me an EverStart with a 3 year warranty. $127 with taxes out the door here in NC.

My original battery crapped out after 3 years. I replaced it with a Diehard Platinum. Around the same time I replaced my wife's battery in her 2016 Mazda. Both batteries started to "leak" quickly ruining the top hold down brackets. I had to clean the sulfate crystals monthly. No protectorate would stop the corrosion. After looking at multiple solutions, like different caps, I looked down into the cells and they were filled to the top of the recessed edge. My thought it was literally splashing out as those caps don't seal around the base. I got a turkey baster and sucked out quite a bit. enough to expose the cells and to see how much I could put back in. I filled it back up and measured about an inch below where it was at originally. No more "leaks".

My 2018 TRD Sport will be 6 years old in June and still has the original battery, not a minutes trouble with it. I may replace it in 6 months or so.

My 2019's battery died just shy of its three year build date. Luckily, it was covered by warranty.
