That is one reason I love the FZ1 so much is NO electronics. No ABS, traction control , wheelie control, no fancy screen, rider modes ect. Just a raw machine that will reward you with smooth riding. JMO :anonymous:

I feel that, very similar to my Old Honda 919. Just the right amount of electronics (Fuel injection that was simple, no oxygen sensors, cable actuated throttle bodies), Analog tach and speedo, a small digital clock, no fuel gauge just a reserve light, no abs no traction control. Just you and the machine, there was something so pure about that bike.

That mentality is one of the reasons why I went with the super tenere. While its a little more electronical vs the 919 its still very simple compared to modern bikes, yes it has abs and tcs (which are really nice), its not overly fancy with electronics everywhere, you get 2 traction modes (or off) and I have a switch to turn ABS off on the fly. The dash is black and white and gives you simple things like speed and rpms and a few menus for temps and ODO. Hell im pretty sure the bike would run without the dash attached lolol.

I got on my buddies bike 2019 Tiger 1200 and was like... how do i start this thing (keyless) oh wtf is it doing (ride height sensor auto adjusting preload), how do i navigate this dash with all these buttons on the controls etc etc.

The Super Tenere is like the 2.5 gen Tundra and the 3rd gen Tacoma. Old school, but modern conveniences. I personally find that to be the appeal of all 3.

Those are the same reasons I've stuck to dirtbikes or old school motorcycles. I like seeing the working parts and being able to fix things with a toolbox instead of laptop. Although I do love tech in other areas of life

    Now get off my lawn!

I've always liked the Pro Grip 719 gel grips. They definitely cut down on the vibes. I've tried the Grip Puppies but they made the grips feel too fat, imho.

I think I will give the grip puppies a try. Even though I am not used to holding something that thick LOL :bananadance:

liquid cooled dirt bike people - how do you refill your coolant? Lay the bike over on one side and refill that way? Or just put it on the kickstand and top off the highest radiator?

just a couple of things tbh
for mine i just have the stand down and fill it until its full and then let the bike idle to suck it through the system as i hold it as close as i can to level and then add the rest on what is needed.

Typically they are designed so that when on the kickstand the cap is at the highest level. Fill her up, start it up and blip the throttle here n there to get air bubbles out, top off as needed. Dont forget to drain and fill the overflow rez as well if equipped.

I did coolant last year, preemptively at 8k miles because I read the schedule wrong. But currently after a ride, there will be a coolant smell. The amount that i put in was correct, and the overflow level is correct. Im not sure if I messed up somewhere

Yup a little bit of soap and they slide right over your grips. Actually had a pic in my phone if you can see it below. I have hand guards too and that's why I thought these would be a cheap/easy first option to try. Haven't really looked into the weights yet since these have helped enough. I didn't like the thickness initially but after getting used to them my hands are much happier now

Did you ever put any in the overflow tank to begin with? The overflow tank is there to catch coolant that expands out of the system as a result of thermal expansion. Best to keep a little coolant in the overflow tank cold (they often have a cold fill line - just like our tacomas), so that in the event that air burps out of the rad it gets pushed into liquid then vacuum when cooling off pulls coolant and not air back into the cooling system.

Likely nothing wrong. There is a vent on the overflow tank that will vent out coolant vapors (think steaming pot) so you likely smell that. I have also slightly overfilled overflow tanks and just from being jostled around, going over bumps, leaning etc some coolant can come out of that vent. As long as coolant levels are proper and consistent (not loosing coolant) you are good.

So idk how it is on your bike but on a drz you can access it unless you take it out of the bike. So the only way to fill it is filling it in the tanks

Interesting, could always fill it via the overflow tube at the rad cap
