Hey guys, 2005 DCLB that used to be in great condition. My gf took the truck out to get groceries and side swiped some kind of sign...

I'm in Ontario, Canada. Not familiar with insurance. What's the best course of action here? I love this truck and plan on keeping it forever, it has a lot of sentimental value, was my dad's truck. Is the body going to start rusting out quickly? I'm swamped at work working 16+ hour days, assuming I should get it into a body shop before it starts to rust...?

If anybody has experience with this kinda stuff I'm all ears. What would you guys estimate the repair value to be? How should I handle this with insurance?

    Thanks guys :(

I’d go through insurance and see what they say, the shop will be able to pull the rocker out and maybe the doors but I’m sure they will want a new bedside and flare.

"Not familiar with insurance" Do they not require it up there? or have you just not had to use it?

Looks like a sharp turn out of a parking space or around a cart caddy in a parking lot. Seen these a lot on a college campus during construction years ago and watch a student do this with a metal shipping container.

Auto insurance in Canada works quite a bit differently than here in the US.

If the doors work and you have no time or money, pull the bedside out and drive it. It will look like crap but probably won't get stolen.
Otherwise, let insurance handle it. The damage to the cab is the worst of it. Replace/repaint bedside panel and doors.

Getting a good paint match 19 yo paint won't be fun.

If you're not interested in insurance, let the GF pay?

He's not familiar with it, neither am I, and he's asking for input. You seem to be more familiar, care to elaborate?

call insurance and let them deal with it? seems pretty universal

if you have a deductible you'll have to pay it to get the truck repaired.

The insurance is different in Canada, than the US.

Eh, my bad. From a claim handling perspective, it's largely the same. :)

OP, report it to your insurance company. Let them handle it. It's possible the repairs will cost more than the truck is worth LESS the projected salvage value. If that's the case, and you'd like to keep the truck, ask them how that process works. I can tell you how it works in the US, but admittedly am not familiar with how that aspect goes in Canuckistan. It's an easy repair based on your pix, so no need to be concerned about "OMG IT WILL NEVER BE RIGHT." That's not an especially difficult color to match either. If the clear coat is weathered, having the truck paint corrected after the repairs will help even out any differences in gloss, provided there's no delamination on the undamaged panelis.

The bed and body and doors are severely damaged and that’s gonna require multiple body panels replaced, body mount(s) may be damaged, who knows what the frame looks like. It’s an older vehicle. It’s totaled.

Maybe it’s just me but I actually think a couple scars don’t look bad on older tacos. Pop the dent in bed out, seal up any exposed metal, and keep driving it? If it were me I wouldn’t sink thousands into body work if insurance won’t cover it. Your girlfriend will probably feel terrible every time she sees it though.
