If you have tinnitus and/or hearing loss, it could be hard as hell pinpointing a beep for sure

Sucks for the CNC plasma guys that accidentally buy a high frequency plasma cutter only to find out the hard way it fucks with their table

Sink a ground rod next to the machine and tie into it. That should help a great deal. It is the high frequency being on continuous when welding AC that is causing the problem that you probably don't notice when welding steel/stainless and the HF is only set to start. My neighbor used to go ape shit when I was welding aluminum because his TV would go crazy, the ground rod solved it.

Garage door receivers are cheaply made. Any nearby RF will overload the front end, regardless of grounding.

I used a 1500watt amp for HF ham radio. Whenever the directional yagi antennas were pointed over the garage, the door would go up and down.

Aluminum foil or some sort of faraday cage around the receiver might help, but I just unplugged mine.

Building stuff for trucks/SUV's has always been a love hate relationship. What are y'all doing to pull measurements on vehicles that are rounded in every corner and panel?
For example... roof rack on a 4R. The roof slopes down. So you can't exactly put a level on the roof and the rack and match it. And you can't really pull measurements for the height again due to the slope. Is eyeballing it really the best way?

i eyeball a lot of it because like in this case, the 4-runners roof appears straight and level until you stuck a straight pipe across it.

your eye is going to be drawn to the imperfections, so even if it doesn't measure straight, if it looks straight, no one will ever pay it any attention. it really doesn't matter what the bubble level or tape measure says in this case.

i just ran into this after some other guys in the shop mounted a tool box enclosure under a dump body at work on an f550. the guys that mounted it leveled the tool box brackets with the ground. it was great, they actually used tools like a straight edge, square, and a bubble level! but they never accounted for the trucks natural forward suspension rake. so if you stuck a level on it, it was dead-on. but as soon as you backed away and looked at the truck overall, the box appeared to be severely tipped backwards because all the nearby body lines had a forward rake, making the install look like a mistake, or the box was sagging in the rear mount.

Glad I'm not the only one that has this issue. And I'd be lying if I said i haven't done the same thing before

I have a camper shell with a ultra low profile roof rack bolted to it. it's fixed on each end and one in the middle. I've had it for a year and so far it's been great but I do worry that it could crack over time so I'm considering adding an internal 1" 14awg structure to it. The base is going to sit on the inside of the shell.

    Dumb idea?

Here is a rough sketch of the rear drivers side corner

it won't really hurt, but it also won't prevent it from cracking. it's more like putting your hand behind cardboard. it makes it slightly stiffer, but will still move enough to cause issues.

My first thought was adding fiberglass reinforcement to those areas. A few layers of a heavy chopped cloth would work. Taper their size...

You'd have to peel back the interior carpet, etc... It would be a job, especially if you haven't worked with glass and resin before, but so would fabing an internal support structure...

If you can weld just get 4x innovations weld on sliders, they are cheaper than I can get the material for and make my own.

Dont bother with anything other than a square main tube and DOM

Been a little quiet in here.

Ordered a Harbor Freight refrigerated air dryer this last Sunday and should arrive either this Saturday or Monday so I'm excited about that.

Although, I'd be curious to see how many more pierces I get from here on out once it's up and running.
