Well it was worth a shot, but the shake is there in 4 and 2wd so I guess it's probably balance.

    Yeah.
Have you checked your driveshaft and pinion angles? You can use a phone app. Measure the front half of the driveshaft, the back half, and then the pinion angle at the diff (that one is kinda hard, I used a flat piece of steel against the diff between it and the u-joint). If the difference between front half and back half, and back half and pinion is significant, you may feel vibes.

Something like this: (front half angle - back half angle) = X, (pinion angle - back half angle) = Y. If the difference between X and Y is more than 1 degree, you may feel it.

I just did an Accutune kit which lifted the rear almost 3". I was getting a vibration that I felt in the steering wheel at about 20-25mph when lightly accelerating or coasting, and from about 20mph to near 0 when stopping. I measured my angles and they were too far off. I did a 3 degree shim on the rear axle and it fixed it.

And I noticed that the OEM springs actually have a small shim, maybe 0.5 to 1 degree. So if they shim it from the factory, you should probably shim it more with new leaf springs.

Wow! thanks for bringing up driveline angles, I should have known better... I just kind of assumed the aftermarket leafs were correct but holy shit are they way off! Like bad enough I could see it before I even put the angle finder on. Even if it doesn't fix the wheel shake it's definitely a problem that needs to be addressed.

    Yeah.
Yeah, it is kind of odd that you would feel a driveshaft vibration in the steering wheel, but that is where mine was most noticeable. I hadn't changed tires and got a good alignment, so I knew it wasn't a balance or alignment issue. Headstrong Offroad has shims you can slide in without completely taking things apart as long as your u-bolts are long enough. It took me about an hour to install.

Hey guys. Newer Tacoma owner and new to TW. I stumbled across this thread and figured it was the perfect place to ask. What's a Toyota stealership that has a good service department? I'm in SoCo so the closest one to me is Weiss. I know the next closest ones would be in Kirkhood and then Hercie.

I'm not needing major maintenance or anything. I have that recent recall and debating using my free oil changes. Plus, it's always good to know which one to go to so I don't get totally hosed. Thanks

Ackerman (Central) is by far the most standup dealership in town.

Weiss sells stolen vehicles from time to time, the turnover in their service department (esp managers) would make a McDonald's blush

Twin City (south)has a dick owner who invested a crap ton of money into handicap vans he can't sell, he has a reputation for shorting his techs and outright lying to people to save a buck. There are two Master techs there that might be the absolute best in the business though.

As far as traveling a bit farther

Jay Wolfe has done a LOT to turn their business around. Not bad if you're in West county.

Newbold (Illinois) couldn't wrench their way out of a wet paper bag. Avoid that catastrophe.

Pappas, Seeger (north) are typical. Not bad, some people have good experiences, some don't.

Lou Fusz (central) Are the largest Toyota dealer by service and sales volume in the entirety of the Midwest. They have a lot of support and run an entire separate business just for Toyota parts. They aren't the cheapest but generally speaking they have a good reputation.

My man! That's more than I could of asked for. I surmise Akerman or Lou Fusz then. I bought my truck in Marion, IL. They had the exact Taco I would have built had I had the chance... so I drove 2hrs to get it. Thanks!

I don't FB so I assume this is the best place to learn about local Toyota related stuff? I know a guy that has done Midnight b4 with some local Tacoma club. But he does all the FB groups. I try to avoid FB. Treat it like herpies. Never have, never will.

    Moonlight probably.

Some of us try to update stuff in here .

There is a crew headed to moonlight this Saturday. Arrival time at 1000

Stock Truck event got pushed back due to weather concerns, will be held the weekend of May 18/19

Plus we are always good for advice in here or showing up to lend a hand if you're changing out suspension or doing maintenance or anything like that.

Edit: who's your facepage friend :anonymous:

Right on. I'm not sure I'm ready to go trailing yet. I'm pretty much stock on a new truck. Just did 5100's and 265/75r16's this week. I'll keep an eye on this thread.

Also, if anyone needs stock TRD OR shocks and struts I got mine. They have 2100 miles on them.

That's a possibility. As long as none of the few projects I've got going on this year don't completely drain me lol
