285/75/16 KM2 QUESTION

Alright, so I'm looking at getting a 3" RevTech lift with 33" KM2's but I'm a little worried about the tires rubbing since I'll be throwing them on some 2008 4Runner Wheels(I'm hydro-dipping them with a camo pattern). I took my truck by an American Tire Co this weekend and they told me it will work but it will be close. I'm more worried come winter time when I'm out and about playing in the snow and I want to drop my tires down to 20psi.. How bad will they rub then, if at all???

So, I'm curious to what options are available to me. This is what I got:

1) I'm sticking with the 16x7 4Runner Wheels(Will post photo's soon)
2) The goal is to be running 33" KM2's without them rubbing at all.
3) I want the best available 3" lift for my 2008 Tacoma(4x4 4.0L access cab) that will allow me to run these wheels and tires..

Hopefully I worded this properly for all of you to understand. What do you think I need to do???

 

What's the back spacing on those wheels? That's where id be concerned if i were you. You could buy spidertrax wheel spacers to make up for the lack of Back spacing the wheels have. You gonna rub no matter what... You will need to do some wheel well trimming and if you choose to do the cab chop mod. For lift, get 5100s and set them at 2.5 instead of that Revtech crap...

 

1. Those wheels have 5+" of backspacing, so you will rub with 33's without wheel spacers
2. Even if you get wheel spacers or wheels with the proper backspacing, you will still have trim some of the fender well, and possibly chop your cab mount in order to avoid rubbing.
3. The Revtek spacer lift is about the WORST quality 3" you could buy, not the best....

If you're serious about having the best quality lift (you didn't mention a budget at all), then look into Icon coilovers or another top notch brand like Fox.

 

I'm not sure what you mean as far as "Back spacing?" When American Tire threw on the 33" KM2 to give me an idea what it looked like, I felt behind the tire up by the UCA and it felt like there was less than an inch of spacing.. Is that what you mean? Thanks for the advice on the 5100's..

 

American Tire Co is the one that recommended the 3" RevTech lift. I have done some research on them with mixed reviews.. My problem is I don't know shit about lift kits. I do have friends that know a lot more than me who I get advice from, but, pretty much all my knowledge comes from this website regarding lifts.

As far as a budget goes, I'm willing to spend up to $1500 for a 3" lift(Preferably Install included.) I'm not trying to build some super baja truck, but, I do like quality parts on my truck. I will soon be adding a front winch bumper, rear plate bumper, and rock sliders for added protection so clearance is a must. I live in Oregon and I get up in the Mountains quit a bit so the extra 3" is a must(6" would be too much. I don't want 35" tires).

Anyways, thank you very much for the advice. I soak this shit in like a sponge. I'll start checing out Icon and Fox for lift ideas.

Spacer lifts such as the revtek can damage parts and give you a bad ride as well. The Camburg website sums it up well

If your budget is $1500, I'd recommend an Old Man Emu (OME) full setup. That includes new front and rear shocks, new springs, and an add a leaf for the rear

 

Yeah, but I will be sticking with the '08 4Runner wheels for a long while and they won't give me the the wheel base I'll need for a 6" lift. I've already rolled one Tacoma.. Don't need to do it again.

 

Lift kits don't make you roll. Driving like a jackass makes you roll over.

Don't buy the revtek. The tire company probably recommended that because thats all they know or that's what their vendor offers.

There are many lift options availabe. SEARCH this is covered 100x a day.

You WILL RUB will 33's. Some minor plastic trimming should take care of 99% of the rubbing minus the cab mount. I have 33's (285's) w/ bilsteins @ 2.5" and I rub the cab mount when turning the wheel in reverse and at full stuff with the wheels turned.

 

It looks like toytec and ARB make an Old Man Emu setup.. I'll keep digging.

BTW: That's a good lookin Black Lab you have there. I have a 2year old Chocolate Lab and a 5month old Yellow Lab. The Yellow Lab just chewed a hole the size of a dinner plate in my $2000 leather couch last week.. GOTTA LOVE EM

 

Old Man Emu is the the Brand name. Toytec sells OME stuff, as does the ARB website and some others.

Thanks I actually have 2 black labs, they love eating anything in sight.

 

Everything I'm reading is saying Toytec is the way to go.. I'll give 4wheelparts a call and see what kind of price they can give me. Thanks for all your help man.

 

I wouldn't even bother with 4wp. People have had terrible experiences with them on here.

 

Avoid 4WP like the plague.

 

Oh trust me, I know. I use them to get a baseline price(Starting point). There's a lot of local 4x4 shops where I'm at. I'm sure I'll just wind up purchasing the kit off the internet anyways. I just want to get a price on installation. If I can get it installed for under $200, I'll pay the money.

How often do you take down your tire pressure to 20psi? That's what I'm most concerned about. I'm playing a lot in the Mountains during the winter months and I need to have that option without any repercussions.
