Fumoto Fact(s) You Might Not Know

Hey OP,
It’s a dumb device. I’d rather just turn the drain plug and let it loose like how it’s suppose to be. So what if I get a little bit of oil on my hand. Cry me a river. Next.

 

It’s a ball valve. It works great. You don’t have to risk the drain bolt falling into the pan. You don’t have to replace the drain plug gasket at each oil change. You can easily direct the spent oil into a container with a screw cap. It does away with the oil drain pan. And - if it’s important to you - you can still get oil on your hands. FFS. Every vehicle should have this installed as OEM.

 

If you can't aim, you shouldn't be changing oil.

 

If you can aim it into a container with a screw cap and no Fumoto valve, then God bless you.

 

We use a $3 2 gal. bucket and a lid to take to recycling.

Spin-on kit keep the filter right side up as others have shown.

Your concern should be about the spin-on filter's bypass valve opening at a different pressure than the one built into the factory center tube. At best the bypass valve opens more often allowing unfiltered oil through. At worst there's oil starvation and gradual engine damage.

 

This thread popped back up as a watched thread...I noticed since my last reply (Mar 22, 2022) I hadn't posted pics of the Fumoto Valve install I did in Sept 2023.

I also replaced the plastic filter housing with the aluminum.

I'll be doing an oil change soon...I wonder if the aluminum housing will un-torque easier than the plastic one.

 

Let me know. I've had no issues with the plastic one but I'm also not adverse to wasting money.

Saw this thread and felt compelled to comment. 1) I agree with everything said in the first post. I've had a Fumoto on my 2017 Subaru Forester since new and chuckle through every oil change because of how easy and clean it is. 2) I'd bet that the majority of the naysayers would change their minds once they've tried one.

I have one ready to install soon in my newly purchased 2023 Tacoma.

And just to be official: Yay, even an old oily thread making a comeback on a friday.

 

I like mine. It is not about having to dig out a wrench or replace a gasket. It is the way it should have came from the factory.

Does it still take 20+ minutes for the oil to drain - like a boomer trying to piss thru an enlarged prostate?

The Aluminum Housing was easier to take off.

I figured the plastic one probably expands a little making it harder to remove even though it's not gorilla tightened at time of oil change.
