Hrm? Mine was built in Texas, 55% US parts content. Slightly more than the Ford Ranger (@ ~ 45-50%). Pretty sure those were American workers making it, too. And I'm sure those guys appreciate their paycheck. Here's someone else's index, for my year of purchase, btw. https://kogod.american.edu/autoindex/2016 has the Tacoma at 10th rank that year, fwiw.

That's one way of expressing patriotism, sure, for one definition of it. Me? Well mine's got vet plates on it, and I don't see any irony of putting my flag on it either. YMMV.

Thanks for posting that. I gave three years of my life and a chunk of my left arm for it and hate to see flags disrespected.

Let's got to the proper source of the flag code,
    https://uscode.house.gov/view.xhtml?path=/prelim@title4/chapter1&edition=prelim

So, on a staff ('affixed to the chassis' could mean a hitch or bed mount), not touching the ground or objects, on a truck? Fine, imho. Part of the code explicitly allows for mounting on motorcars.

Re: the AF academy use -

So if a part of the executive (service academy, via the chain of command) decides that it's proper to say, display an oversized flag in a horizontal manner, that's perfectly fine.

    ...

Also, I didn't know this part (2008 amendment to the flag code)

2008—Pub. L. 110–181 substituted "all persons present in uniform should render the military salute. Members of the Armed Forces and veterans who are present but not in uniform may render the military salute.

Thanks for posting, was looking for that exact link, but was running out the door for work and couldn’t find it.

It isn’t law, only rules and guidelines, so up for interpretation. For me seeing them getting beat, torn and soiled in the bed of truck is disrespectful. Even if it is attached directly to the chassis, see plenty diesel brodozers spewing exhaust all over it, making it filthy, that isn’t right. At least to me. However if it is a parade, I am ok with it, since it is only temporary. We all have lines in the sand that we draw.

Yep, my dad’s side was extremely anti-foreign made vehicles, ironic as my father nor my grandfather on that side served in the military, my uncle and great grandfather did however.

It was my mother’s side her sister to be specific that turned me on to Toyotas, that grandfather was a Navy Corpsman in WWII. My aunt lived in Arizona, remember in the 80s going out there to visit and seeing all the Toyotas running around, where back East in Pennsylvania you would get in a fight with someone for owning one. I was teased relentlessly, times sure have changed!

Personally I don’t care where it is made, however find it odd people flying a US flag in a Tacoma.

My 1st Gen was built in California, my 3rd in Mexico. The ‘85 4Runner and ‘92 Pickup in Japan. Which were much better built imo.

The Ford thing isn’t about where it is made or what parts it contains, more about my father would be proud me going back to them after not owning one for over 30 years. That and Toyota doesn’t make a 1 Ton, or I would buy one. Much rather have a 70 series built in Japan to tell you the truth.

S'not meant to be pristine. It's meant to be flown. Obv don't put it right into your exhaust, fly one of appropriate size/rating for the wind conditions (basically a storm flag, since folks drive about that fast), and if it becomes unserviceable give it appropriate honors. That's my take, anyway.

This reminds me of when Jeep had to explain to morons when they put “backwards” American flags on the passenger sides of their vehicles and that the flag was, in fact, not backwards.

I am in Idaho, the truck bed off the bumper/hitch flag flying is quite popular here.

My personal moral code and idealism I view it as highly disrespectful towards the flag. And I don’t consider myself overly patriotic either.

This is The United States of America, your view may be different, and that is ok.

Speaking of flag disrespect. Penn and Teller had a very interesting take on flag burning.

Sorry low quality, on lunch and in a hurry.

    I explained that already.

I can't really see how, by itself, it's disrespectful. Can it be done in a disrespectful manner? Sure.

It is my personal view on the act, you don’t have to agree. And that is ok.

Tacomas are Japanese which are mainly built in Mexico. They aren’t an American company, nor built here anymore, why I’ll never fly a US flag or even have a sticker of one on mine, feels disrespectful to the American auto worker. A Japanese and Mexican flag is more appropriate for it.

Another example being: while I do not care for Harbor Freight, I’ll occasionally go in there for nitrile gloves for working on the dirt bike and truck. What caught my attention, the customers that frequent that store, majority are wearing some type of “Pro America” t-shirt, while all the tools are made in China, found it quite ironic, while a few miles down the road there is another shop “Idaho Tool” that sells mainly Made in America products.

Ironically, there’s a flag reflection in the window if you look close.

I like to call it Harbor Fright… :D

China might not of become a global super power if we never shipped most of our manufacturing there. Of course we would have been never become such a manufacturing force/super power if it wasn’t for WWII, with Europe and the Soviet Union loosing majority of their factories to bombing runs.

Another that is more legible. It’s a serious thing, a part of the population hates foreign vehicles. Flying a US flag from one is blasphemy.

So, being that '(north) American Made' is basically almost every truck (chicken tax), this is just saying 'big 3 as Union shops are the only America'.

    Which.. Yeah, no thanks. YMMV.

Keep the mob union strong so that they can bitch and moan until the company gets tired of their shit and moves production to Mexico. Works great every time, just ask Detroit.
