wiper blades

I’ve noticed the replacement wiper blades from Toyota do not like my truck. In the past 3 weeks I’ve gone through 3 sets now. The rubber squeegee part keeps breaking loose. Has any one else had this problem?

 

I have been replacing the inserts for over 5 year without issue.
Maybe check if you have some residue on the windshield?

 

Are you installing replacement blades or replacement rubber inserts? I can see replacement inserts failing due to incorrect installation or deformation of the "claws" holding the inserts. What's the P/N shown on your invoice?

Did you purchase the Sightline wipers in a hard plastic package that the dealer sells? These are not the oem blades and instead are generic Toyota “Sightline” blades that are not very good. As others have done, I also buy a pair of OEM inserts for $12 once a year.

 

I just pay a few xtra dollars and get the OEM replacements, I’m on year 5 on my OEM blades, and honestly, cannot ever recall getting more than 2 years out of any other brand available on the market..
Well worth the cost IMO.

 

+1 for The Bosch Wipers.
They work great in the winter.
The OEM ones seem to be really crappy and fall apart quick.

 

Had the sight lines, and glad I saved the stick arms. OEM replacement inserts for tha Tacoma a 4R work well on my Toyotas.

Other brand trucks I use the Bosch Icon or better, but more expensive than the Toyota replacements and I don’t think much better

 

I've used wiper inserts direct from dealer parts department on every vehicle regardless of make that I've had for at least 20 years. If inserted properly on original wiper frames they work excellently and last as long or longer than any aftermarket.

 

OM inserts for my Tacoma and 4Runners and nothing else.

 

I know this is the 3rd gen post and I drive a 2nd gen but OEM is the only way to go with wiper blades.

I bought my truck used and it had aftermarket blades. I bought factory blades for it now all I do is change the OEM inserts once a year.

I'm surprised that some people don't realize that wiper blades are a wear item. The blades wear out and they head to some local parts store for whatever brand that claims to be the best.
Stick with OEM. You won't be disappointed.

If you want to use some RainX on your windshield (the water repellent coating, not the blades), go for it.

 

Is it weird that my original wiper blades still work fine circa 2019? I have a set of inserts from Toyota in my parts stash. But I don't get streaks or any weird wiping marks

 

I usually change blades every fall, whether they need it or not. I use OEM, Bosch, or Rain X

 

Same. I bought some replacements for the just in case scenario but I’m not seeing any signs that I’ll need them anytime soon.

 

I wasted $50 buck on a pair of Rain X wiper blades. Oil smudge all over the wind shield.
Never again.

 

My OEM's lasted 2 years, but then it got so hot out here last year that they melted onto the windshield - ... -

 

My OEM blades on my 2018 were fine in 2022 but I changed them just because I wanted them to be new after a basic service and I think they would be fine still today.

A few months out of the year, yea.

 

Another thing to consider is how messed up your glass is. At 300k my windshield looks like it went through a sandblaster. All the little chips and micro scratches tear the wiper so they don't last as long. +1 on the OEM inserts though. super cheap and easy. Another good option is the cheapest Bosch wipers from the parts store. Seem to get a solid year out of a set.
