Can't say anything about the trailers you mentioned; the HF one I almost picked up cause it would've been free (was offered to me) but I was too busy to pick it up

You can opt at spending less and buying a used trailer that's already plated too

If it needs some work, even more of a reason to negotiate as metal can always be cut and replaced; I wouldn't say having 'sides' welded up would cause the trailer to lose any resale value, it can be considered a utility trailer

Fixed several trailers myself as small jobs, just helps having the material on hand already

I just did this for a friends trailer. His has stake pockets though so I put 1.5x3 box tube into the stake pockets. Then welded everything onto those 4 points. He is putting plywood on the sides.

It’s been a minute since I welded anything but got some parts from send cut send and had to do a little… rework. Oops. Making a cargo thingy for my brother-in-law’s 2d Bronco. Not sure all the gear is gonna fit!

I feel like some days you’re a good welder or a good grinder. Today I felt like Michelangelo with a chainsaw carving David out of a giant Redwood tree.

considering the cost of steel, and the implied use that it might only be once, i would do this instead
    https://www.uhaul.com/Trailers/6x12-Cargo-Trailer-Rental/RV/

if you've got the steel on hand, maybe a little different story. i would just do 3-4 pairs of uprights with a brace across the top, basically your own 'ladder rack', and then stretch a tarp over it.

Thanks! Bit of a puzzle as my brother wants to keep the rear seats. (I would take them out) So the whole thing has to come out easily. So far so good. 4 bolts and the whole thing lifts out. The frame stays behind but is unobtrusive. I just need to reinforce the mounts a bit as they’re a little springy, but I have a plan. Wish I had a friend around the corner with a plasma and a brake! lol.

Im putting too much heat into it. I have open corners that are meting. There is a butt load of welding on this fully boxed 10 gauge gusset and I keep getting it too hot. Even after I setup both at the same and then alternated. I have some blocks on aluminum to set them on but I still have to walk away for an hour to let them cool.

Oops realized when I said "run hotter" I was actually referring to @Zebinator welds thinking they were also yours

I do a ton of 10 gauge and run it as hot as someone runs 3/16"

Even on open corners like the first post in the page prior to this one

Hotter = more wirespeed which means more deposits filling in those open corners nicely

Of course this is just a sample; I can add the bottle opener as shown in one of your links (choose one side or both) and a design if you want/need

I wonder what's the max thickness that can do. I don't think many realize how insanely massive press breaks can get and even then they're still limited to not super thick stuff.

Well......that'd depend on the bottom die opening, inside radius, and size of the flange which determines the tonnage required so

I'd be curious about it using European dies or something else

    You're fast, damn hahaha

I have a very simple design in mind, might not be able to get a pic tonight though, daughter is 8 weeks and is peak witching hour fussiness today, it seems. My grandpa had a dairy farm and has a pretty simple "A|D" brand. Also, if it's easier to ship flat, I could bend it here, I'd just need the bend areas cut/tabbed/whatever and I can weld solid here. Whatevers easiest for you.
