Fumoto Fact(s) You Might Not Know

Well, I use the filter for about 20 minutes per month. I’ve had it two years now and don’t think it will ever need changing. My oil is pretty darn clean so there’s not much contaminating that filter too much.

 

Does your oil look visibly cleaner after passing through your 2-micron filter setup?

 

No it doesn’t. I’ve seen videos where it turns magically clean but that’s a hoax. The oil, when it’s doing one of its job of “cleaning” will get darker in color. Don’t let that mind you in the least. The #1 thing that that will ruin an engine is contamination. Use a great oil filter, and air filter too, and you will be on your way of doing good for your engine.

I take the same approach with my oil as I do most other things. I rather change things at 90% life than try and squeak out the last 10% and save a few pennies. I think we’ve all chased Pennie’s to wind up losing dollars.

 

I can say this, I’ve heard of way more drain plugs falling out than I ever have of a Fumoto valve leaking

 

Added a new item to the list, #22 in post #1. It states.....You don’t forget and leave the drain plug that drops into the pan and then discard it out with the oil.

 

this is a huge plus for me-- the fumoto is sacrificial. absolute worst case, if it develops a leak, i've saved the wear on my oil bung threads, saving me an entire oil pan replacement, and can easily order a replacement valve that failed from standard use...

 

If I forgot to reinstall a plug I could probably forget to close the Fumoto valve also. I don't how that would happen when you have to put new oil in and check the dipstick before starting. If I couldn't do that correctly maybe I shouldn't be trying self maintenance. Don't know how a plug can "fail" if it's removed and installed correctly.

 

Maybe I’ve been lucky. I installed a Fumoto drain valve in our FJ when new, it’s a 2008. I have changed the oil every 4-5k.
Currently has 142,000 it is never leaked is never been removed.

 

I don’t think a plug can fail. The only failure I’ve ever heard about with an oil drain plug is the idiots that reinstall it. They forget to tighten, the overtighten, they cross thread.

 

I can't refute your comments but I know I have read here, and seen a bunch on YouTube, of oil change failures. They do happen, even to the best of you guys/gals.

i did last time. was so excited to use it and walk away, forgot to come back to it to close it! lost 5 qts to that mistake.

 

Yep, partially closed/open and was fortunate to not lose a drop.

 

I’ll take that as a yes. Cool product but I prefer my shavings and potential gunk to woooosh out when I open the drain hole, not dribble. Used one on my 03 Tundra 4x4 OR and hated it. That motor oil was changed every 10k and came out a dark caramel color. Castrol edge 10w-30. Use it on the Taco 10w-20 and it comes out black at 10k. Blackstone says plenty of life left in it so I trudge on with 1 change per year. YMMV

 

Why would you have shavings in the oil pan?

Oh fuck, I just remembered my oil filter is upside down too!

 

What pliers do you use for that clip? I have an F133 that I haven’t installed just because of being hesitant. That clip would make me feel better about it, but only if it’s not going to be a PITA.

 

First time with this housing filter system…and I’ve adjusted to it.

Fumoto works great as long as “due diligence” is taken to lock the valve once drained.

I’ve got the aluminum housing and it doesn’t expand like the plastic one does so hand tighten plus 1/8 turn is fine.
