I have been a bit concerned with the rpm belt especially since it doesn't seem to stretch. I will be replacing it with a cheap regular belt. I'll gladly take some belt slip over having the stud snap. I made sure to install that lower pulley in the correct way so I don't think that was the cause. The belt still could have walked off but I honestly think the stud snapped before the belt got misaligned but it's just a guess at this point.

Some more observations my engine idler pulley closest to the power steering pump seems to have some up/down play. It still feels smooth but I am going to be replacing it. The wider lowest idler spins smooth but it does have a bit of resistance to turn. I'm not sure that's normal. I am going to replace all of them just so I have a fresh start. Especially since it looked like the main engine belt started to work it's way off the crank pulley. It looks like my local dealer won't have them until Tuesday so truck is going to be in time out for the time being.

I’m not entirely convinced the belt could walk off without something causing it. Perhaps a medium/mild load could cause the old tensioner to chatter, and domino effect, shock load to the stud, and *snap!*. It’s just an idea.
Something like this effects a lot of folks here, me included with a newly installed set of the newer studs.

btw, @Murphinator, maybe a fleetrunner belt?

Yeah especially with how much force the belt is under. Too many unknowns to say for sure sadly. I've been running the fleetrunner as my serp belt, I would run one for my sc but I don't feel like chopping ribs off. If I have to replace the belt yearly I'll gladly accept that over having this failure again.

Seriously. I don't know what type of unobtanium gates used to make these belts but they can take a beating I'll give them that lol

I've had good luck with my new, not rebuilt, AC Delco Gold 130A alternator from Rock Auto. Worth a look if you haven't bought one yet!

I turned one of those RPM belts into confetti. Those things are way harder cut out than a regular belt I'll say that much..

The shit part was that when the first rib came off it ripped out my throttle body wires. I spliced the wires but it still wouldn't start. Towed it back home re-pinned all the wires with a new plug, still no start. Finally it threw a code for "TB stuck shut" , never had seen that one before.. Took a look and the blade was for sure wedged in there. (I think it slammed shut under high boost when the wires came off.) I unstuck it and it started right back up like nothing happened. :rocket:

Keep your belts and undies fresh gents.

nice! It's an AFe intake with a TRD lid. I have the Gen 2 TRD intake sitting in a box new but the fitment wasn't the greatest so I stuck with those one :)

Someone had said the AFe is actually better performance wise too so I'm happy. I actually like the lid with it too

This is why I roll deep on the cheap. Jk I can't afford that fancy belt but I can afford 2 or 3 lesser expensive ones. The tensioner should do the job and belts should have proper deflection

By the way the (2) Gates K070834/7PK2119 for the serpentine are free for pickup or pay me and I'll ship. There are 2 belts there. 1 new and 1 used for 10k miles since I swapped for my Howe PS pump so can't use the belts. Get at me.

Man. It's been some drama in here the last few days with your misfortune @Murphinator . I'm sorry to hear you were having so many issues. Breaking off that lower stud is a real pain to remove as I'm sure you saw. I'm just glad you got to the root of the cause and can start to move forward with getting back on the road.

i believe slight, smooth rolling resistance isnt bad. rough, with excessive play no good.

Totally agree. For instance, a somewhat different scenario but similar: I was entering a highway with my ‘01 vette, 427 w/F1 procharger/methanol when 2nd to 3rd WOT hard manual shift broke an 8 rib green belt in a split second. Limped home and fixed, one destroyed hood liner later, and I learned my lesson. Now for anything street, I go “easy” lol
I just don’t feel like fixing shit anymore. @Murphinator, good luck with your repairs. I think when I install my SCOL pulleys and upgraded alternator tomorrow, I’ll be removing my RPM & installing a cut down 7 rib fleetrunner for the supercharger. I’ll keep everyone posted on the results.

ive run the green fleetrunner and had no issues. i change annually as cost isnt much.

His stud snapped and the engine didn't grenade. That's what I took away from it all. Lol.

Thanks, it sure was. Last I know it was sold at Mecum a few years ago. Now I’ve got a ‘13 427 C6 convertible, completely done, stage 4 cam/heads/long tubes etc. It’s a lot of fun with about 610 wheel, but still not close to the supercharged 427. Currently running a 390 rear, but considering 410. Either way, it’s still tons of fun on the street, and I don’t have to worry about any belts breaking! :burnrubber:
