I agree, I'll take them as is. 90% of the time I am the only one in my truck, 9% there is one passenger and 1% there is two. That rare second pax can sit behind the front pax. My wife's 4R (soon to be LC/GX) is what we use for the two of us plus family/friends.

While very unlikely to blow up or break you do have an added cost of possible eventual post warranty repair and replacement you do not have with the non hybrid.

As mentioned in an early post of the parts cost of the battery and inverter the parts are approx 8K. You would not have to worry about that until reaching 10 years or 150K.

I am not sure if the hybrid system in the truck is the same but another thing to think about is if you infrequently drive your vehicles and leave them sitting for a while, you may have to pay closer attention to batteries than you did in your non hybrid car.

Every time my neighbor goes out of town for over a week, he has to deal with some kind of battery issue on his hybrid Prius and Rav 4. Or maybe he is not bright and doesn't disconnect the battery....every time they go out of town you can almost set a clock that within a few hours of returning home, a AAA truck will show up. The Rav 4 is new. I don't know if this is a hybrid thing or idiot thing...could be both where they are involved..lol

I have two boys (5 and 8) so back seat room is a thing for me. FWIW, I do not anticipate either one of them being tall.

I wouldn’t think they would have to be. Especially with the crappy roads where I live. Lol

seems like some sort of battery tender would mitigate these issues?

I'm sure there is some kind of solution, I think he is just too much of an idiot to figure it out and I don't like him enough to tell him..lol

Toyota has sold close to 20 million hybrids since the Prius first came out. I’m sure your brilliant neighbor is causing his own issues.

I mean you do have to drive them, he leaves them sitting for a month or more at a time. From the limited research I have done on them, (wife needs new car in next year or two and looking at all options) they do recommend that they are driven at least 600 miles or more a month for longer battery life and health.

While that is nothing for most people, it is something to consider if you often go long periods of time without driving. We sometimes travel for multiple months and the cars sit, so I found that interesting while looking for a vehicle replacement. The hybrid isn't ruled out, just something that came up and to take into consideration at least for me.

They don't need to be. But there's an option there if you want to use it.

Don't know where your getting your information about hybrids. Our rav4 hybrid is left for extended periods of time in temperatures from -25 to +25 deg. C and sometimes driven very few miles, no issues with traction or auxiliary batteries. No different than operating an ICE vehicle. The Tacoma or Tundra do not have Toyota's Synergy Drive System normally associated with it's hybrids and should not be compared as such. Tacoma and Tundra's hybrid system provide a short burst of extra power for a lot of extra cost, weight and little if any fuel economy benefit.

It is a thing, it may not be a common thing, or a thing to worry about but it does happen, and I would imagine the older the battery the more the chance, just like a normal car battery...they age out or cycle out...

I didn't say it was some end all be all thing and to not buy a hybrid, and I didn't attack the precious reputation of the almighty Toyota hybrid. After all, I own and enjoy my Toyotas as well. I was just pointing out it could be a thing to keep in mind, and yes at some point after 10 years or 150K there will be a 10K service/replacement that will have to be done to keep it on the road.

I mentioned it because it was something I was not aware of the possibility of but it makes sense. Most years our cars get shut down in May and not started again until August. So it was something for me to note when hybrid shopping.

TFL video with chief engineer says that TH bed utility bar is modular. The angled sides with the molle can be removed and then the front section can be paired with a soon to be available rear section and side rails and/or top rack.
