Hey everyone, I’ve been offered a V6 2017 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport with 114,000 miles for $19,000. Is it a good buy? This would be my first car so I’m worried about any mechanical issues that might happen with that mileage. Any common mechanical issues that happen after 100,000 miles? Anything I should be on the lookout for? I’m sorry if it’s a stupid question but I don’t have any knowledge about Toyota.

    Any info is greatly appreciated!!

Edit- 2 Previous owners, tires and brakes look good. It did have an oil leak but it’s been fixed. Paint is flaking off but Toyota will be repainting free of charge.

I would say that just about any running truck with 100k on the clock for $19 grand is a good deal these days! Regardless of what you might read here, these are solid trucks. I would say timing chain cover leak on the front of the motor and a leaking coolant bypass pipe on the backside should be checked out as they are expensive repairs.

    PS: welcome brother!

how many owners? is it clean and accident free? are service records available? any outstanding TSB/recalls? there were a number of TSB for that year i believe. other occasional issues were oil leaks at the timing cover and coolant leaks.

i would pay a reputable independent mechanic to look it over. if it checks out, is clean, straight, and has good tires and brakes, $19K seems fair to me.

good luck. keep us posted and post pics if you get it.

That price is too cheap and a red flag to me. Is this a 2wd truck? Is the title clean?

Any prior accidents? If in the rust belt check for rust. 2017 should still be okay.

That does seem too cheap, like @Big Cole said. If that truck is in good shape, I would buy it immediately. Ask the seller if you can take it to an independent mechanic and have them inspect it before you buy. That way you can have more assurance that you aren’t getting scammed.

Also, check the frame for rust.

You mention paint chipping. Is that from rocks or is the paint flaking off for no reason? Also, what color is the truck? Certain colors have had paint issues.

What states has the truck been in with the 2 previous owners?
    Have the frame checked.

    Itz JDM tyte, yo!
+1 on this advice. A PPI saved me from a bad purchase before. The mechanic can check underneath the vehicle for any signs of rust/accidents and can perform a compression/leak down test on the engine, etc.

Take to a mechanic and have it checked out/ inspection. Worth the money for peace of mind. 19k average price for a 17 2wd 114k on clock.
