So I recently installed a set of 6112 shocks with the included 600lbs springs on my 2nd gen tacoma and Ive found they are a bit stiff for my liking. I was thinking it might be from the preload as I installed them on the 9/7 setting for 1.8" of lift. Couldn't find much on the forums but I'm thinking about moving the circlips down to stock (no preload) and installing 2" tophat spacers in order to get a lift. Are there any downsides to this? Haven't been able to find any solid advice. Im curious what you all think.

The springs wont clear the UCA at droop with a top hat spacer of that size. As a general rule you cannot stack spacer lifts with any of the aftermarket coil overs meant to lift the truck already. The 6112's are a fairly sporty ride. If you just replaced your stock suspension anything will feel stiff comparatively.

That is helpful, thanks. I came from the trd shocks and they rode stiff as well. Thought the 6112's would be more comfortable. No complaints with them otherwise.

Another issue would be CV axle binding from the shock being too long. You can usually get away with a 1/4" spacer on top though (1/2" height).

6112's w the 600LB spring do ride pretty well in my opinion. You can measure your down travel and want to have a min of 2" but 3" is more ideal for ride comfort.

You can take your front sway bar off and try it and it will ride a little smoother but with the cost of more bodyroll.

Otherwise, my favorite non-res shock is the dobinson IMS for their progressive valving.

I have this same question. Did you end up adding spacers? Did you lower clip setting?
