I went to Midas once for my 1983 Wagoneer. That was enough for me. They bought parts for a different vehicle and jimmy rigged them onto the rig. Didn’t say a word to me about it.

Agreed on many of these post, drain and refill is the way to go. Aisin, who actually makes the transmission, recommends this maintenance much more frequently than Toyota. Every 30k miles.

The question isn't.. is it worth paying the dealer $550 for a transmission flush.

The question is.. is it worth paying Midas $59 for a transmission flush?

Drain, confirm what comes out, and refill. As others have mentioned, torque converter can be issue.

I had dealer flush mine for $350 at 85K. Dealer was running a special the week I had it done. Runs great.

Update: went to a well-reviewed local transmission shop, as recommended. Torque converter needed to be rebuilt (OEM ones are backordered two to three months), so they did that plus a flush, filter change, and refill.

$1400 (I’m in central coast California). One year warranty on the rebuilt converter.
