When has a Tacoma ever had a V8?

Comparing my 2001 Tundra Access Cab with a 2024 Tacoma X-tra Cab, the Tacoma is only 4.5" shorter and 1.4" narrower, but 3" taller.

    But how about that V8!

And who could forget the awesome range from that 26gal fuel tank!

So i picked up my 24 on Saturday and have put roughly 500km on it. Here is my thoughts so far I had previously owned two 18's. The truck looks and feel bigger even though I don't think there is much difference from what I have watched on youtube. The seating position is a lot more comfortable for me I have had a few back surgeries. My rear bumper on my 18 Pro was not aligned that well and all of the panels seem to have a nice gap between them. You can really tell the difference with the coils compared to the leafs. I really like all the storage that is in the side of the doors. At first I wasn't to fussy on the look of the two tone seats but they seem to be growing on me. The pickup in acceleration is much smoother mind you I haven't had it past 3500 rpm yet. The manual is very smooth and quite enjoyable to drive. My only gripe so far and I posted this on another thread that I seem to only notice it down shifting to 2nd sometimes I feel or hear something when the clutch is fully engaged and you just got in to 2nd like a vibration or like a metal on metal feel in the pedal or maybe its just the way it is its easier to notice when the radio is down. I would like to think that I am a fairly descent manual driver and I don't think its anything I am doing. I think after reading about the fella whose transmission went very early on I might just be paranoid. Maybe someone else with a manual can chime in. Thank you

There's no replacement for displacement I was told! That 4 cylinder just sounds like a lawnmower!

Doesn't the manual have some kind of smart shift?

Yes there is imt which helps with rev matching. But this is more of the feel in the clutch when its fully engaged

Any way to get electronic rear sliding window and digital rear view mirror aside from opting for the premium plus package dealio?

I’m just a sideline watcher for now. If it’s full package or not at all kind of thing for the above options I’ll just have to hope that changes in the future.

Only that gen1 Tundra was almost exactly the same size and had a V8.

I had the TRD true dual exhaust on my 01 Tundra which sounded so good.

Pretty sure all auto transmissions have a coolant to coolant system within the radiator. New Tacoma actually has a trans temp gauge and TFL pulled a heavy trailer up a steep mountain with no issues. Your concerned that there is no external cooler for a problem that doesn't exist?

according to the video and their feedback the transmission overheated. For a built purpose truck "dessert runner" the least possible they could do is put an External Cooler for the transmission especially for that kind of money. Also TFL runs that Trailer for a period of what? 20 min? on what ambient temp? maybe 60s!. Try that same load for a tranny without a cooler for an extended period with an ambient temp of 85. So yeah! the problem does exist!

Dessert race trucks should have the radiator fans and any supplemental coolers behing the cab.

I didn't initially see the end of the video where he spent all of 3sec talking about the trans "overtemp". Did a light come on or did the gauge go in or near the red? Everything the else they said about the truck was positive. Would have been a good opportunity for a follow up to diff-gate and get a lot more views.
