    Hi,

I recently came across this JB RTT for cheap and installed it on the truck this weekend. I'm a little concerned about how much it overhangs my bed rack. When driving, it seems fairly stable but it does have some bounce to it occasionally.

Curious if anyone sees this as concerning, any possible ways to fix it?

Mainly what's concerning is how much it hangs off of your bed rack. If you have a lot of weight in the tent on that side, like if you rolled over to that side while sleeping, I'd be concerned about how much force you're putting on the mounts. It will likely break down the line, either at the mounting point or somewhere on the tent from flex.

Can you move the rack all the way back and remount the tent?
I've never understood having a tent 6 feet in the air, but to each there own.

The rack is attached to the bed rails and are all the way back already. Seems like the only other option would be to get a taller bed rack so the tent can clear my cab. Before I do that though, I'm just curious if my current set-up is a problem. When I yank on it, it really doesn't move much - feels fairly sturdy.

Man, that's a lot of overhang on the rear of the vehicle. Does it effect how the truck rides / steers? And I too have never understood the appeal of those things. I guess that's why you see so many used ones for sale.

    Doesn't impact steering or feel.

Rotate it 90. It’s probably about the same length as outside of mirror dimension. Don’t park nose in and don’t back into spots with trees or light poles.

Haha that's some outside the box thinking. I'm trying to scheme up ways to raise the height of the bedrack. Maybe bolt some rectangular risers to the bed rack so that the tent clears my cab, then shift it forward.

I would adjust that setup just because it looks weird. I think it’ll look a lot cleaner if you do what you’re talking about and get a rack that will help the tent clear the cab!

With some googling, I found these: https://www.victory4x4.com/product/VBR-3RTT.html

I think this is the cheapest, best solution.

Some kind of spacer to lift it up, then mount it farther forward.
Maybe a piece of 2” square tube or similar would work.

It probably wouldn’t be the last time some lumber got used this way but since it’s a bolt-together rack either custom risers or extensions would look better.

I think the main concern is, if you can climb 6 ft into a tent, why are you parked in a handicapped spot? ;-) j/k, but I can’t stop noticing that

Maybe you can space up the tent and move it forward. Or buy a taller rack.

Taller rack or a 6ft bed. That's way to much overhang.

I backed the rack up as far as I could and moved the tent as close to the cab as I felt comfortable and it seemed to help a lot. What amount of overhang (inches from last crossbar) would you consider too much?

Anything over 10" depending on how the tent is braced. That leverage will put a bunch of extra force as it bounces down the road. Not to mention if you were to lay in a way that put alot of weight on the over hang.
