The more I read the horror stories about Toyota dealer incompetent service techs the more I think that taking the time to learn to do most of the maintenance myself is the safer and cheaper option.

Oh really? Interesting. I swear I’ve only ever seen postings about it being a two piece, but I also haven’t researched the factory skid plate. Thanks for the info

I feel fortunate that my local dealer has been fair and competent for us. Once they did a CV boot on our RAV4 and it leaked; they didn't just fix the boot they said it could have damaged the axle and proactively replaced that too at no charge. But there's another one not too far away with much higher prices and I have not liked them.

I think fewer Sports than ORs get the skid swapped out so you'd hear less about it. Regardless, the factory plate is IMO just an early warning system and if you are going anywhere rough it's worth the investment to replace with something more robust. I don't intend to skid across mine but from past experience I know I will hit/scrape things. They don't call the Rocky Mountains I live in "rocky" for no reason!

Steel wheel Center Caps Falling Off FIX??

My steelie plastic center caps seem to be falling off. At first I thought it was where I got the truck inspected but now I noticed another has fallen off.... I prefer them on. Sure I could bend the tabs but as Tacomaworld is filled with people that have already done that I figured I'd ask... .Many thanks!!

Got rid of my rock chipped grill and plastidipped trim ring, all thanks to a member here who hooked it up with a great condition grill and OEM black trim ring. I actually like these grills a lot, once the chrome trim is eliminated of course!

I trust the lube techs at my Toyota dealer about as far as I can spit. I used the free maintenance one time, never again. Got a free oil change and rotation and was leaking oil from the oil filter housing when I got home. I told them to rotate the tires with the rears go to the front and the fronts cross to the back. All they did was swap tires on the same side of the truck. I know this cause I marked the tires with a grease pencil just to see if they would do what I asked. Next time I rotated the tires, I liked to have busted a gut breaking the lug nuts loose, no way they were 83 ft lbs. Now I have to take my taco in for that weld splatter recall and will ask them specifically what they are doing and not to touch a f#@#$ing else on my truck. Thanks for letting me vent.

I've had people that work in fast food tell me that if you ever lose your cool in the Drive-Thru Lane just to drive off, because you do not want to eat the food they are going to serve you. In that same vein, I'm not sure I'd go into the service department and be a dick to the people that are about to work on my 40k+ truck.

People who live long enough find that they have lost thousands of $$ because they just "walk away" ... restaurants that made the meal wrong but you can only get a replacement, items purchased that were faulty but the return process could result in temporary (you can only hope!) double or triple charging, ...

Fools and idiots are everywhere, and you do not NOT need to be there even at save $$.
