Just think, if you'd gotten a pre-sale inspection done at a shop some mechanic would have gotten a free tool instead of you

As a Toyota tech I've found plenty of stuff under cars. Lots of magnetic lights that died then were forgotten to be removed. I found my current stream light on a skid plate. Found several oil filter sockets. Couple hundred bucks worth of snap-on tools left in cars, picks, trim tool, extensions, several pliers etc. I've never left an oil filter socket on a car but I see how some techs are glued to their phone so I could see forgetting it if you got distracted.

Just saying Toyota (and Toyota engineers) recommend oil changes in these new gen engines with synthetic at every 10k. This is the new norm and the previous owner was just following the service manual. Can’t fault him/her.

    The oil wrench thing… lolz.

I lose magnetic flash lights all the f'n time.

I've seen techs lose this wrench a few times, flat rate and 10,000 oil changes I cut people slack.

It’s funny that you mention it. I’ve had a combination wrench puncture a tire simply driving down the road in my Ranger.

Thought to myself, wtf a wrench would be doing here?

Man, I have lost my fair share of magnetic lights. People think expect techs to be perfect. I wish we were. I know those people aren't. They need to cut tech some slack. It's easy to arm chair quarterback. But until you work on 7-12 cars a day, you will never know.

    minor tweaks
In the Navy we used shadow tool boxes to prevent that. If you went to turn the box back in to the tool room w/o it being complete (or the tools clean) you're back out on the flight line 5min later taking everything back apart. Nobody in the shop got to go home till it the tool was found and then you got to sit through a rather unpleasant (one way) chat with the maintenance chief. Not sure how they deal with it these days but it was very effective.
