Good video. Informative without too much BS. Would like to see how a stock 2024 OR holds up though.
Key tip I got was to always bring a hacksaw to cut off your smashed tailpipe tip.:D

+1 - stock Offroad without the addition of 34" tires tested right along side a stock 3rd gen off road

I think fourth gen is starting to get a bad rap with all these "content" threads...

Actually, this video made me feel better about it after the TFL fiasco with the front diff. That's looking more and more like a one-off problem.

Yeah, as much as that truck got dragged on the rock it showed very little damage.
Back when I used to go 4-wheeling (a looong time ago) I had to rebuild the whole exhaust system a couple of times. :)

It’s just nice to see a youtube guy actually driving this truck over obstacles.

so far most just advertise for accessories… look at the new free roof rack from ______. Link is in the description. Haha

So this guy begins the video with a damaged report to the bottom of the truck, over rocks it couldn't clear - how nice. Every time I take my rigs off road, I analyze the landscape before making a poor costly decision.

Point some may be missing here.. That 24 Taco Off-road had 34" dedicated off-road tires installed which should have had some benefit when using it offroad.

I was surprised about the complaints about both the stock rear and front suspension which I assumed were an upgrade over the 3rd gen off-road factory suspension.

he’s not the smartest knife in the drawer. He’s gone from a guy who talks about Toyotas in his garage to actually attempting to drive them off road.

we won’t get real off-road reports until all the overland YouTubers get one built out with their sponsors. Give it another 9 months or so and all those guys like LLOD, revere overlanders etc will be bashing some rigs on the trails.

If I'm not mistaked, he drove Poison Spyder which is not exactly an amateur route and certainly not intended for show room stock rigs.

Moab is known to have many trails that produce tail dragging with Tacos or other similar styled long rear overhang pick up trucks. Also Moab takes a toll on vehicles with long wheelbases which contributes to high centering. Installing the largest diameter tires possible can minimize these specific vehicle characteristics and associated damage but they don't cure every poor suspension issue.

Poison Spider is considered a rated 6 trail. This from Red Rock 4 Wheelers' rating description.

"Trails are difficult with considerable erosion damage, loose rocks, dirt, and slickrock. Water in excess of 12” is possible with mud conditions. Steps not exceeding 36”. 4WD, 35" plus tires and two traction adding devices (lockers, limited slips) are required. A winch would be a plus. Enhanced suspension travel and good ground clearance are required. Excellent driving skills are recommended."

I'm surprised the OP didn't damage his truck more! LOL. Props to him.

That's what I was thinking. It does look like a couple of add-ons saved him somewhat.

I would love to know if 34s can fit without any mods.

The rear lower control links are the soft underbelly of the new gen Tacomas. Wish they didn’t sit so low.
