It's a solid strategy.

 

They have some G17 G4 ($340) and I’m looking for a beater gun to carry. I didn’t wanna lose a good $600+ gun if I should have to use it.

 

Smith and Wesson M&P Shield is perfect for that. Works well, conceals easily, not a big $ loss if you ever need to use it... easy to get another one.

 

Have you ever tried the Hogue Overmolded with finger groove grips?

I put one on one of my ARs... I've sincee replaced ALL of my AR grips with Hogue.

 

I understand what you are saying but I look at it a little differently. If I’m in a situation where I have to use it, I want the best most reliable dependable gun I own. The one that always, every single time goes bang. The one the feels good in my grip and I’m the most comfortable with and accurate with. And after an incident if I’m still standing that means it did the job. If it’s confiscated that’s ok, it saved mine and possibly other lives. It was worth it, I can buy another.
For me that’s my Glock 19 gen 3. (Although my 17 is starting to feel damn good too) Not the most expensive gun but certainly not cheapest. I can do magic with that gun. I’d hate to lose it but I could get another to shoot another day.

I have no problem with a police trade in. Most of them are like new. I just want to carry the gun I’m most comfortable with regardless of the cost. And if I’m in a shoot out and they confiscate an expensive gun, I don’t really care as long as I survived.

 

I may or may not have recently purchased a couple of new handguns.

Only way I could see pulling that off is my son giving me a Bday gift (Interfamilial transfer)

 

5.7 is a blast to shoot! Only thing is it throws brass 15 feet away from the shooter with a spread the size of a truck! The XDM 10mm dropped the brass in a small circle less than 5 feet away.

 

I’ve got the XDm elite 10mm with that same optic. Love that gun.

 

I enjoy the rubber over mold I have a couple K2+ grips I just didn’t not care for the finger grooves
