Pretty sure the rest of us just tune it out. I have no idea who or how many there are here, so it's whatever. If you didn't mention it so often I wouldn't even know there were any at all

To be fair a few months ago it was “Groms and other bikes” thread. Trends change, people participating change, all good.

If you’re excited about a motorcycle it’s fine by most of us i’m sure. With usually several pages a day we’re all good at skimming over what doesn’t interest us by now hah.

I think it's same length for the KLX, just a bit longer on the Versys X 300. It needed to be longer anyway.

Tying down around the lower triple clamp is almost always the best way to go. A lot of bikes that lower clamp tends to be a little thicker and handlebars are rarely a good spot as they're just tubular steel or aluminum and fairly easy to bend. If you don't already have some try to get some of the tie down loops that are available and strap that around the clamp first. This avoids having an actual metal hook from your strap anywhere directly in contact with the bike. Avoids putting scratches in the paint or body work.

I totally agree. My justification was "it's more fun to ride a slow bike fast, than a fast bike slow".

Plus I'm only smart enough to know how dumb I really am. If I jumped back in with a 450 it would not have ended well lol

I got 41.6 MPG for my IronButt trip, though it's probably a little less since I still use the bike's trip meter, which is a little optimistic (for reference, the 1508 miles I did showed as 1556 miles on the S10's trip meter). Max MPG was 46.9, lowest was 33.6 (wind was brutal). I was cruising at an indicated 82-83 MPH the whole time, and I was loaded with all three luggage boxes and was packed down with RC cars/parts and clothes.

This is my fuelly link for the bike:

    https://www.fuelly.com/motorcycle/yamaha/xt1200_super_tenere/2016/legalhexadecimal/1250950

Just curious why you don't fly in and ride back? You'd be able to split lanes through LA (though if you've never done it before maybe don't try it in LA on a new bike...), and even though I'm told I'm a glutton for punishment with my long riding, the S10 will absolutely eat up mileage. The PO said he just got back from a long trip so it seems like it's in great shape mechanically (not to mention low miles). Riding would be way cheaper than a uhaul, and most likely faster as well, just due to the speeds you can average.

Even if you do take more time to get back, it's probably faster than driving your truck and trailer both ways if you flew in.

After having slow bikes and fast bikes,,,,,
Riding a fast bike slow knowing you have the power is more fun because slow on a fast bike is still faster than the slow bike.
It’s unsettling when I was at the track with the R3 getting passed on the straights by bikes going 60mph + faster than me. Anytime there was a straight before a turn I always had to be aware that someone could be coming up on me quick. Getting passed is not fun. It would be better if they had slower bikes (not riders!) in a separate group.
The pluses are the bike was super light, easy to lean and got killer fuel mileage even at the track.

Went to the supercross race in Philly on Saturday... here are a couple short clips my wife took (hopefully these links work)

Also spoke with Seth Laam last night and discussed final details on the seats for my Super Duke. Very cool guy and knows his shit. He said they should be finished today and will send pics before shipping them. Can't wait to see how they turn out, also @BkerChuck I mentioned you and the ride we have planned

I've never done a track day on the pavement, but I can imagine it feels pretty hairy since the stakes are so much higher.

I'm the type that believes "I paid for the whole speedometer, I'm gonna USE the whole speedometer". It's best to keep myself on a ~80 mph leash lol

I don’t go too fast but it’s the acceleration that I really like. Yes I agree it’s hard sometimes to control the right hand but being 56 now it is easier for me NOT to. The R3 topped out at 110 mph but takes a long straight to get there. The FZ1 will reach that speed in a 1/4 of the distance and in second gear. I have not been faster than 145 mph on the FZ1 and that was at a track day. I think the top speed is 165 ish? On the road I hit 110 real quick but that’s it and only when I think it’s safe and no other vehicles are around. I don’t want to endanger anyone else if I am doing dumb things.

I've been real happy with my Laam seat. It was sort of crazy how just by looking at the wear patterns in the old seat he could tell me what issues we were having, like her sliding forward under hard braking. Some of the best money I've ever spent on a bike as it's your point of contact between you and the motorcycle. Glad you should have it back in time.

I just installed LED headlight bulbs last night in the 2013 FJR. Working on the final routing and going to send it to my Garmin soon. Read a little more about the IBA mentoring deal. We'll need to get together after the ride and you'll submit your application with mine electronically and then we can split the costs plus you'll be granted IBA Premier benefits at no cost for 6 months or something like that.

OK thats definitely in line with MPG's that I see, I have an anthony tune on my bike but that doesnt do anything to closed loop fueling just throttle input stuff. I wish I had done a little more research and went with a powervision setup so I could tune things and adjust closed loop fueling for more MPG's past 4k rpms among other things (before the powervision software got neutered by the EPA)

Damn woke up feeling good from my chest and arm workout yesterday. Chest and arms are sore but the good kind. Sitting here drinking my coffee and all of a sudden my left shoulder blade/ trap just tightened up and is now super sore. Getting old sucks!!!!
Hit it with my massage gun to loosen it up. Still going to do my shoulder workout today but will have to be careful.

"There's no replacement for displacement" ... the other common phrase haha

I'm sure it will transform the bike... he was explaining it's much more about the shape of the seat rather than padding.

Nice I'm getting things ready too. I ordered rain gear yesterday. Still need to pick a communicator, so many choices and trying to decide if I should get a two pack now so will have an extra when my wife wants to ride. I had a RAM X-grip phone mount laying around from my old bike so put that on the Super Duke - not ideal but it's way more solid than what I was using before. Also need to change the oil and a few other odds and ends.

Sounds good regarding the application, and as it gets closer we can do a final rundown make sure we're good to go.

yeah...i had to be a little dumb and learn that the hard way lol. both have their merits but the smaller bikes are a hoot to wring out.

Getting passed so abruptly definitely took some getting used to, but now it's expected. I simply worry about what's in front of me and do my best to maintain a predictable line.

I'm the same as far as acceleration and speed...not to say i don't like going fast lol but acceleration is what gets me. Nothing quite like when the powerband kicks in, which the smaller bikes lack sorely. How have you been enjoying the FZ1?

if you can wait until May 4-5th there should be a 20% off sitewide on Cardo with my buddy's code: KOA

if you decide to go that route. I'm sure they'll release a generic code to use as well but if they don't the one above should work.

I've never lane filtered, so definitely wouldn't be doing that on my first ride on a Super Tenere.
There are a few reasons to drive over flying. First, it's a road trip with my buddy and he really wants to go. That's the big one. Beyond that I don't know the exact condition of the tires and fluids. It might need an oil change in the next hundred miles or something. Then the flights are all a few hours away from the bike, so there's that added hassle.

If I can't make the schedule work with my buddy it may be back on the table to fly, but for now the drive is the plan.

Love the FZ1, just doing a couple mods to make it even better, suspension, seat and bar risers now that it’s my forever bike.

Nice! All great bang for your buck mods that will be well worth it. Did I miss you mention who you're going with for the seat? I've always had good luck with Saddlemen
