Thanks appreciate that! I have a couple weeks to order one so will check that out...

Also I'm jealous of all the track fun your having. I'm finally going to schedule a date to get back there. I want to do a day on each bike and planning to start with the 701. When's your next one?

Speaking of track, I’m hoping to get to the track in June! All this moving has put that on the back burner unfortunately.

Next scheduled one right now is a 2 day weekend on June 22-23 at Willow Springs Raceway, running Streets of Willow, and another weekend planned out for October 19-20 at the same. I'm also looking at some track schools (CA superbikes, yamaha Champs school, Jason pridmore star school) but man they are pricey lol. The JP classes are 1 on 1 at a track day, at $1500/lesson on top of the track organization fee as well. Champs school ranges from $2.5-$4k for a 2-day class depending what track, so CA superbikes is looking like the most likely one at around $650 for one day if I bring my own bike, which I likely will. I'll probably be adding more regular days throughout the year too, because man this shit is fun and I just want to keep practicing skills haha. Also want to get a lap timer at some point...the one my oldest brother gave me works off IR transmitters, which no one seems to use anymore.

That 701 will probably be an absolute blast at the track...you gonna back it into the turns like a supermoto pro or what haha

@TacoTyusday FWIW, they're offering coaching at Laguna for ARD for an additional cost.

Im just going to watch some Youtibe videos and go have fun anyways, not looking to do anything insane. I’ve got to stick to a budget so even $500/day is pretty steep.

Haha i still have that one in the back of my mind...you're doing the July 22 one at Laguna correct?

Unfortunately the october at buttonwillow would make the most sense for me, as that's right after the willow springs weekend I have so I could just extend a day and pop over. but i'll definitely keep it in mind....would really love to ride laguna seca.

TrackDaz does have a 2 day Laguna Seca weekend Aug 31-Sept 1...maybe that should be the one we link up at....though it seems Laguna is a hell of an expensive track. Each day is $600, vs the $220/day at Buttonwillow I just did :bananadead:

Yeah, it's not cheap, but it's hard to put a price on the feeling of dropping into the corkscrew. Last year, I had an absolute blast!

It's a much farther drive for you, but they're also doing an even at Buttonwillow in Oct. for like $180.

Ugh, that event is October 21st, which is a Monday. My manager might kill me if I ask for more time off since I just took a week off and am planning on taking two weeks off in September to go to Japan.

    I’d totally sign up otherwise.

Yeah, that's the one I'm going to. I'd almost consider doing both Laguna events. Laguna is definitely an expensive track--especially on the 105dB days. I have to go to those because my bike wouldn't pass the normal 93dB limit any day of the week.

Buttonwillow is looking increasingly more attractive at only $180!

The bike came with a Corbin but I do not like it at all. I ordered a stock seat that will be here 1st part of June. Then I am thinking of taking my bike over to Riches in Kingston and having a custom seat made just for me. Not cheap but for my forever bike yes. Then hopefully I can find a buyer for the Corbin to offset the cost.

I would definitely need to put the baffle in my exhaust I'm sure lol. Yeah i think it's most likely that I'll be doing the buttonwillow day for Aprilia since I can just add that onto a track weekend I already have planned. Laguna is a bit far for a one day thing...but I'm definitely considering the 2 day with TrackDaz I mentioned. just gonna have to weigh the budget and adjust lol.

That's surprising, I've always heard good things about Corbin.

Custom seat will definitely be the best route though. And worth the expense if you plan to ride it into the ground. I can't imagine it would be too hard to find a buyer for the Corbin, though i guess it'll depend how many fellow FZ1 owners you have around you.

congrats on the Ohlins! always a nice dopamine rush getting parts in, especially ones as shiny as that!

The problem for me with the Corbin is that it pushes me into the tank and is actually pretty hard. I have tried bike shorts under my leathers and that didn’t help. Just need the right density foam for my weight, raise the front and flatten out the rear.

Nice! Yeah the schools are pricey. Nothing substitutes seat time and live coaching, but reading and videos can help too. Speaking of CA Superbikes, Keith Code's Twist of a Wrist II is a good read. The org I rode with years ago included a training for first timers that was very helpful, split between classroom and on-track coaching. It would be awesome to do one of those schools though.

Agreed the 701 is gonna be so fun… I don’t have the cool supermoto skills but going to keep practicing so hopefully one day haha. I haven’t ridden on the track in 10 years but feel like I’ve grown a lot since then and can’t wait to get out there. I’m not fast by any means, but also not scared to lean it over and have a good time

Corbin has a reputation for being hard and requiring a lot of break in miles. How many miles do you have riding it? I have a Laam custom seat on my FJR and he tells you straight up it doesn't begin to really break in until athe least 1000 miles. If you're really planning on keeping it check out Laam Custom seats. He uses your OEM seat and rebuilds it for your size, weight, and intended use.

oh dang that's been quite a hiatus from the track! "I'm not fast by any means".....said every blisteringly fast dude on two wheels ever hahaha. I'm sure you could still smoke me even after this long away.

You know I actually read twist of the wrist and TOTW2, as well as Proficient Motorcycling, when i first got my license, but haven't read them since. probably a good idea to go back and re-read. The two track orgs I've been with do have some very basic newbie classroom coaching, and happily lend an instructor to lead and/or follow you to see how you're doing which is nice but that's usually just for one session. Feel like a full day with back-to-back session assessments/reviews would be hugely beneficial vs one "review" of a session and no further input to see how my knowledge translates to improvements.

I put on just over 2000 miles before I sold it then another 180 after buying it back.
We have a great seat builder here in Kingston WA. You make an appointment and bring your bike with you. Appointments take about 3 hours and they build the seat with you there. So you are able to test fit yourself on the bike and ride it in between. Then once everything is good they sew on a custom cover all while you wait.
