Smittybilt XRC8 or XRC10?

Im going to be getting a winch this summer, and its not going to be used too much but should I get a 8,000 max limit or a 10,000 max limit? I'm probably going to be pulling either myself out, or friends who I go offroading with. They are all medium trucks like my tacoma or a mid SUV. I might pull out smaller fullsize trucks. So Should I get an XRC8 or be on the safe side and get the XRC10

 

I think you should be fine with the 8000lb but the 10000lb wouldn't hurt if your willing to have the extra weight on the front of your truck.

Get the 8,000 and a snatch block. Problem solved.

 

Check the specs. The 10 has the same motor as the 8, just a little lower gearing. So the 8 will have a little faster line speed.

 

100 bucks but I would just get the 8,000 and a good snatch block you could pull more then 10,000lbs

 

I have had no problems with my 8. Haven't stalled it yet.

Yeah i was. But I think I'll follow everyone and get the 8 and a snatch block.

I would in no way consider myself an expert when it comes to recovery equipment. With that said the different types of pulley / snatch blocks accomplish the same thing it all comes down to the ratting. I would always recommend doubling the rating on the block to what your winch is. For example if you have a 8000 winch get a block rated to at least 16,000.

I’m new to winches but have done fair amount of research to be safe and practice proper winching techniques. I learned a lot from watching this series on youtube. It’s definitely worth your time.
