just a couple of things tbh
I be back from my few days break! Girlfriend came in town so was a bit busy to even bother to really look at my phone! I'd love to get out for a ride but shit it's going to rain allll week so the bike will still be buried in the garage behind interior parts from the civic.... Hopefully here soon I can go out for a ride on it!

Yes been way too long! That’s so funny but for real I’m not fast, probably intermediate pace though who knows till I get there ha. I only went a few times on my gixxer. To my credit I was quicker than my friends and dragging knee on the second day. But I have plenty to work on and looking back at pics my body position wasn't great.

Agreed a full day session would be much more beneficial. The training I did sounds similar. We had classroom in the morning, rode a couple sessions and got feedback after each, then were on our own in the afternoon. So not really much one on one time. The org I rode with previously isn't around anymore, so I'll check which dates are available at NJMP and see who to book with. Also going to look at what trainings are offered.

well picked up my first bike yesterday. I was already looking at this one a while back but got to ride @Modern.Hermit this past weekend and it sold me. Found a guy selling one for really good deal with a ton of upgrades and only 3k miles. Its a 23.

Question for the collective on here. Do any of you camp off of your motorcycle? I haven't to this point but I'm considering it. I really want to attend Vintage Motorcycle Days in Ohio the last weekend in July as it's a huge vintage bike meet with vintage racing all weekend and lots to see and do. Dianne has no interest in going along and the hotel rooms in that area for that weekend are outrageous. Considering just purchasing a small 2 person or 3 person tent and just camping onsite. It's at the Mid-Ohio Sportscar Track and I believe that the ability to camp is included in the admission ticket price. So for those here that do this, what tent are you using? How small does it pack down and what's the weight on it?

BTW, if any of you are planning on attending this event let me know and maybe we can split some of the costs.

    Thanks!

I use a Big Agnes Fly Creek UL2 bikepacking tent. The bikepacking version has shorter pole sections so it stows better. It weighs just over 2lbs and packs down to 5.5" x 6.5" x 14". Pictured at Overland Expo and tucked back in the trees at Mesa Verde NP.

That definitely looks like a cool set up. Right up until I looked into the current price. If I knew I would be using it more I'd have to consider it but this might be a one time shot so that's a bit steep. I do appreciate your reply regardless.

Yeah, not for a one time use for sure. If space isn’t a big deal then any of the REI branded tents are usually a decent combination of price, durability and waterproof in case the weather turns nasty. Nothing worse than camping in a tent that leaks.

@BkerChuck Have you considered riding in and buying a cheap one at the nearest big box store rather than packing it for the ride? Big 5 usually has decent deals on tents as summer approaches.

I camped out and backpacked quite a bit when I was younger but drifted away from it as I've aged. Gets harder to get up in the morning and I'm a lot stiffer after sleeping on the ground now. I started looking into hotel rooms the weekend of the event reasonably close but when a Quality Inn is up to $250/night I have to consider my options.

That is an option I've considered. Many years ago at Sturgis I saw 3 guys ride into the campground we were at and drop off all of their stuff then 1 stayed to watch the gear while the other 2 ventured back out to buy tents and sleeping bags. They just left it behind when they headed home.

I've camped a little off the bike. It was never worth it to me to buy a specific bike tent. I just use one of my two normal car camping tents. I've done a 2 person REI one that is smaller, or we just got a Coleman blackout tent a couple years back. The REI one backs down to about a 8" diameter x 2' cylinder? I'd guess?

I've always had more room on the bike for a less compact tent than I've had dollars in my wallet that I wanted to spend on a tiny tent.

I did buy a nice down-alternative sleeping bag though and a stuff sack to shove it in. Bonus was the sleeping bag worked great as a backrest when strapped to the pillion seat.

I have a little 3 person tent that I use for normal solo camping that is what id use for camping on the moto. Givi 33L side cases, a full size milk crate for top box, sleeping bag strapped on the passenger seat against the milk crate. This would be my setup and id have room for everything without any specific small stuff other than maybe a little burner for coffee in the morning.

That's the rub. The more packable the gear, the more it costs. Checkout Motocampnerd.com if you are considering motorcycle camping. He specifically stocks stuff that is smaller for motorcycle camping, but it's nor cheap. If it's a one night thing, you're better off paying for a hotel, because it'll cost at least that much for a tent and sleeping bag.
