Can't like that. The next few days may mean you find out how hard you were hit and how fragile things are that you think were all fine. Be careful...

    Good morning fellow Porchatonians!!!

Thank for the birthday wishes and good thoughts about the accident. I have an appointment at 8 for a damage appraisal. Hopefully, there's no frame damage. Everything else is a fairly easy fix. And, no aches or pains from me at this point.

    Good morning all. :pccoffee:

I just want to get this work day over with. I'm off the rest of the week and we're leaving in the morning for Ohio to hang out with some of our FJR forum friends for the weekend.

My questionnaire is sent via email a few days ahead of the appointment. Then I have to sign that the info hasn’t changed on an iPad when I get there. My better half refuses to fill hers out until she gets there…scared of technology, but she’s on Facebook daily to see her family and friends pictures. Crazy! Oh well, it’s her life.

Got a few strawberry plants in yesterday. Loaded the UT (utility trailer) with trimmings to haul off when I’m finished trimming. I still have a lot of dead on my lilacs…20-30 of them! Yikes! I’d better get busy!

Kettlebell day! Got to go to the grocery for dinner fixin’s. It’s mine and grandbabe’s week to cook.
Have a great day and get outside! That vitamin D is critical!

I had a surprise happen for me, that I was not expecting in the least. I bought my 09 new in, well, 09... And I put an Extang cover on it pretty quick. I had a snap cover on my previous truck and upgraded to their J-hook version, as I still wanted a cheap, light rollup cover and had little interest in a velcro cover (seen too many that drooped and didn't seal well). That cover has been on since and worked very well, but the tailgate side corners stitching started to break and the plastic stiffeners broke. So, I was thinking of replacing and was looking at what was available. Well, Extang stopped selling the J hook, and other vendors just had the velcro versions and the prices had gone up to $500 for the "cheap, light" cover that I wanted.

So I called the vendor that has apparently taken over the Extang brand and asked if I could get the J hook version and they told me no as they couldn't make the frame any more, but they gave me another number and said that I could call and they might be able to make another cover. I called, and SURPRISE, SURPRISE, they could make me another cover for $145 shipped. Took a few weeks, but it was delivered and I replaced it and it was just the same.

Very much a pleasant surprise as finding parts/replacements for a 15 yr old cover was not something I thought was possible in this business world.

Semi-bad news on the Tacoma. Definite hump in the frame - not big but there. They're going to take it in on the 14th and pull it apart to see how bad it is, if there are any cracks and then go from there. Ugh.

To be honest, if it were me, I would be going for a total. If there is "any" chance, start over.

And I'd be looking to buy it if it was totaled. Totaling vehicles for minor damage that can be repaired easily drives insurance rates up for all of us.

Understood, but my concern is the value of a vehicle that has an accident noted with frame damage.

Yeah... the public has been sold the idea that vehicles can't be repaired adequately... all while people on this forum do more damage to their own vehicles by "upgrading" to add aftermarket parts which require cutting and splicing in ways that do more damage than a simple frame repair.

Perceived value and actual value can be quite different... and the public tends to let others tell them what to believe.

I'm honestly not at all worried about resale value. This might very well be my last truck. A 2020 with 36k miles. And it was the truck I really wanted. If they can fix it, I'm all for that.

LOL... and isn't it weird that Toyota will replace a frame under warranty while an insurance company will total a truck for minor frame damage that can be repaired in my driveway with common tools.
