Ok so I first noticed, moving the rear light switch to "ON" with the doors open, actually turns the rear light off and the front overhead lights remained on. I removed the bulb, no change. Then, I re-installed the bulb, all three lights were on, then went off for a few seconds? Then they all three came back on.

To be clear, in all these tests, I press the lights on the overhead console to see if that switch has anything to do with it. No change

You have someone near that could test your new console and verify it functions entirely correct? Not on your Taco.

I do not. And to add frustration, it isn't a "new" console. But, back before I started troubleshooting this myself, I did take it to the dealership. They were pretty useless, except the tech notes said they did swap out the overhead console(s) for testing.

I suppose I could try the "replacement" part again; it is plug and play. It wasn't an exact replacement, but for purposes of what I was doing, it was close enough (missing the SOS call button only).

Another test to rule out the upper console switch, with test bulb on disconnected r44 connector, pin 15 (+) and pin 22 (ILE) test for ON, then close doors and verify dim to off.

Pins numbers are looking into the connector, not the wire side.
Place probes on wire side thought.

Ok checked, no voltage when the truck is off and doors are shut…
I don’t have a test light so used a meter. Also don’t have small enough leads so just made an extension with solid wire.

:smack:those pins are weak in the connector, that's why I wrote use the wire side to probe. Also the cabin lamp could've been used :D.

Test with door open, then close it. Verify for dim to off.

Correct. Fuse was inserted. Lights on overhead console were ON, I disconnected the R44 connector, then the result

Test pins 12 to 15 with meter. Hot to ground.

No voltage. Also 0 across 15-21 and 15-23. This is regardless of door position.
I disabled the auto off timer with the lights via the radio to try to reduce the variables.

Hmm, but if you replace the console the lamps turn ON and stay ON....

Correct. I’ve tried a variety of ways, voltage readings are the same. What I also don’t understand: with the rear dome light switch in the “ON” position and the door opened, the rear dome light goes off?

Cabin lamp switch is only Door or ON, no OFF selection. Off with Console switch.
How do you feel about temporary de-pinning the ILE wire on connector IN1?

Probably out of my comfort zone, but I can give it a try. Would that be this wire in this connector?

I can probably do that, but I don't have any special tools to get the pin out of the connector. Any tips? For this, we need to remove the YELLOW IN1 conductor from the downstream (roof-ish) side of the connector right?
