Damn that looks tasty! We can always fire up the grill to get it hot and turn it off to keep them warm. Also inside oven or whatever is necessary. I better get some Dos Equis to compliment them Tacos!

Sounds good! Anytime you are getting tired of the heat and want to knock some of the stuff out just say the word.
Anytime bro! During the summers I am either out in the woods, in the garage or on the course. I am always open to host. Just need enough notice to deep clean the house so the wife is comfortable having guests.

    Mojave rattlers and Nair ...

Some of you may guess where this is going ...

Walking on Gila (Pyramid) trail, damn near stepped on a mojave rattler at the edge of the trail. Damn thing would not leave quickly enough to suit me so I scrambled on a side hill to give it room, and got a hand full of microscopic spikes. Stopped at Walgreens and bought Nair to pull 99% of them because I could not tolerate them much longer.

Ah ... Arizona. What a state! :tumbleweed:

Really interesting that you mention this. My buddy is the head of Analytical Toxicology at Banner University and he said snake bites are a little worse this year than last year. He specifically mentioned that people are much sicker from their bites than at this time last year. A couple of them are confirmed Mojave Greens which is pretty rare but explains the extra sickness.

Thanks for the heads-up. Been coiled/rattled before but never bitten. Glad I got away with just the spikes in my hand.

It fortunately seemed as disinterested as I in having a long conversation.

Yeah rattlers are generally not looking for a fight. Only true exception to that Im aware of is young ones in the spring when they are hungry will strike at just about anything. That goes for all of them, not just Mojaves.

My quick glance told me 6 or 7 rattle segments. Not a baby.

My encounters with rattle snakes (quite a few at my condo) as long as you can see them they really aren't a threat(assuming you don't be a complete idiot with them) . Have been reasonably close and half the time barely get a rattle out of them. It's not the snakes I can see I worry about it's the one you don't see that scares me. So just pay attention and don't go putting your hands/feet into places you can't see

Oddly enough despite all the hiking I've done I've only ran across 1 on a trail. But at home usually run across a few every year

I’ve lived in AZ my entire life and I have honestly only seen 2 rattle snakes the entire time.

About 13 years ago, my cousins and I were hiking out of by the creek in Payson around early morning. A decent sized rattler was coiled up in the middle of the trail, still not fully awakened by the sun, and both my cousins in front of me jumped over it last second not realizing what it was. By the time I got near, it was starting wake up a bit. Went around and moved along.

The second one was last spring on a trail near Roosevelt Lake. That one was alert, pissed and rattling so we just turned around and went back to camp. Had the dogs with us so wasn’t going to take any chances.

Funny enough I’ve only seen a handful of scorpions here too. Knock on wood. The desert just north of us is being developed so I’m sure I will be seeing all sorts of weird shit this summer.

Someone told me this story ...

Walking on Lost Ranch trail in South Mountain. For 2/3 of a mile it is steep, hill-one-side/drop-off-the-other. Stopped to rest midday June. Before moving on saw a snake half-wrapped around her heel (maybe rattler, but who cares about the difference at that time). Braced her lag for a fast slide/kick to move it over the edge.

People who live in Ohio and Vermont think we are crazy.

Unfortunately people have been killing rattle snakes that they encounter, so as a result they are being selected by those who rattle quieter or not at all.

Dont get me wrong, if it is in my house around my kids and pets its dead.

But its amazing how many people will freak out and kill a garner snake that is just doing its own thing

Back when I was young, I remember bunny hopping a few every spring while mountain biking. South Mountain or just about any trails we hit would have them around dawn.

I could only imagine getting one tangled in your spokes and sending it up into your face or back.

Now I'm having flashbacks to surfing when I was paddling to catch a wave caught a huge jellyfish on a stroke and flung it onto the backs of my legs.
