Oakite also works well on rust. We use to use it here at work.
Not sure if it's commercially available?

Our digital presses use a rapid coagulating primer (RCP) which is predominantly phosphoric and malonic acids.
I'll be grabbing a jug of our waste rcp to use.

    I think they are similar.
Interestingly the RCI use a mix of square and round tube where the Cali ones are all round tube. I have no idea if it matters at all.

Six of one, a half dozen of the other. The square tube version has easier cuts and a little less welding, round tubing has a longer weld path, which would be a little stronger. Either is much better than none when peer pressure gets to you.

Looks like round end caps, similar to Mobtown. Super strong design

I’ve got the cali raised sliders. The ends are cut straight. They’re made well. Welding is good with no pinholes. They seem strong enough. But even though I’ve used mine to pivot on rocks or slide over on rocks at Tigerton, I haven’t “hard dropped” the full weight of the 4runner on them.

The stupid holes on one of the frame plates was slightly off, so I had to ream the hole a bit, which was a pain in the ass. If you make the holes too big, then the bolt head/washers will be too small for the hole. (See the three corner holes in the pic).

Also, powder coating looked good, but I think they all fall apart once you get gravel chips on them.

I ordered raw steel so I can have mine coated with cheap paint and scratches. The malls around here are infested with a rich and vibrant culture that I try to avoid at all cost. No need for shiny on my old truck.

Good. It will be easier to strip the paint off in a few years. Right now I have a combination of powder coat that can be peeled by hand, and powder coat that takes forever to strip off (where it’s not rusted).

I’m thinking of painting options once these are stripped clean. Anybody have opinions on primers? Specifically, would it be better to use self etching primer, or a 92percent zinc dust “glavanizing” paint that can be top coated? I’m tempted by the zinc coating because it will help contain rust creep on chipped areas, but I’m not sure about adhesion qualities. The self-etching primer is good stuff in terms of adhesion.

I’m curious about prep and painting too. I’ve seen good info in some threads, but like an idiot, I didn’t save the link.

As solid as Pat said Woolwax Hard-On is, I've been considering it as a slider coating.

"Considering" meaning I know nothing about it except it exists and he used it on the flatbed.

Tim's getting sliders? What's next, using 4x4 switch?

    For coating:
Rustoleum or Ace self etching primer and Rustoleum Professional flat black paint.

After getting a look at @Pixeltim pads and rotors, I think he needs to find the gas pedal 1st.
Get off the brakes Grandpa. :boink:

Having ridden shotgun with Tim a few times, I can assure you this isn't the issue. I think it's all of the hard braking to avoid the dipshit drivers Madison is riddled with.

My first driving experiences that shaped how I drive came from my own grandpa. Every time the light turned green, his ‘65 Chevy wagon was burning rubber! He was 70 years old at the time!

    Grandpa, my ass!

Tim has superior driving skills. He doesn't need to use the 4×4 switch.

That's what he keeps telling us.

    After a few drinks.

Damned snot nosed kids out yapping their jaws without connecting them to their brains!
Gramps taught me that you drive in 2wd until you GET stuck, that's when you hop out and lock the hubs.

    Simple.

Now these damned kids get all fancy with crawl control, traction boards, snatch straps and winches.
Bunch of f'kng pansies he'd say!
And ya know, he might be right!

That being said, yeah, I can drive, dammit! When I was learning to fly, they were teaching me full on aerobatics right after my first solo! Pffft, cars and trucks are simple by comparison!
Try doing a spin in 4 lo!
    I DARE ya!
