Hello all - Newbie here. Just got a 2009 Tacoma RWD access cab, automatic (5-lug) purchased from my father-in-law a couple weeks ago who unfortunately had to be done driving. I just got it home and got tags/inspection and all that and noticed some red fluid on my garage floor (pic) It isn’t much and I don’t notice much at all when I park on asphalt IMG_7091.jpg but I am concerned it’s transmission fluid. Definitely more red than pink like coolant, and oily not watery. I think I found where it’s coming from (pic). Any thoughts on what it would be are much appreciated. Is it a common issue? Is it an easy fix? TIA. IMG_7030.jpg

Output shaft seal, pretty easy to replace. Just need to remove the driveshaft.

Ok thank you so much. Is that the backend of the tranny? What do you think I’m looking at at the Toyota dealer to have them do it? Or maybe an independent shop can handle?

Any independent shop should be able to handle that

Independent shop should be able to fix that no problem.

Remove the driveshaft, pop the old seal out, press new seal in, reinstall driveshaft, and check/verify transmission fluid level.

Doesn’t sound terrible, but well outside of my expertise. So maybe $4-600ish? I really have no clue….

Where are you located? No more than $350 I'd say

I would say no more than an hour labor plus whatever the seal and transmission fluid (if needed) costs. So depending on labor rates I would think no more than $150-300.

    Northern Virginia (Loudoun County).

$350 wouldn’t be too bad. Just bought new wheels/tires, new black grill and other small items to update it.

Thanks Guys, really appreciate it. Hoping to have this truck make it to 200k (at 106k now).
