I'm expecting some skids I ordered to arrive by the end of the month.

I'm thinking that it would be prudent for me to undercoat the chassis and rust prone components when I have the OEM skids off, before installing the aftermarket ones.

Would the process for that essentially go like this:?
    - Use a good salt wash under the vehicle , let it soak then rinse things off (be very cautious to not blast the electronics boxes with pressurized water)
    - use a wire brush to clean up any visible rust as best as possible, touching things up with a rust converter followed by black chassis paint.
    - put a tarp under the vehicle, throw in some goggles, a respirator and dress up In a disposable painters suit
    - go to town with rp-342, taking care to avoid the exhaust, transfer case, moving components, tires/wheels, engine, brakes, rubber, etc.
    - install skids
    - profit!!

I'm thinking of building some wheel cribs to raise the vehicle a foot or so, giving me extra clearance underneath it to make the process easier.

Am I missing anything and should 7 cans of rp-342 be enough?

For what Krown charges and how well they spray, I don’t want to mess with it :p

Will check out reviews of surface shield, I kind of like how rp-342 is black and bad a non tacky film from reviews though.

Fluid Film is good. Heard is a kit you can DIY.

I use clear Fluid Film, and it naturally turns black over time. It's not tacky, just greasy. It lasts more than a year even going through automatic car washes (I have yet to find an automatic car wash that does a decent job of cleaning under the vehicle).

IMG_2258.jpg IMG_2252.jpg IMG_2257.jpg I think you’re on the right track. I’m trying to remember how many cans of Cosmoline I used. I think I used eight cans. I think I had at least one can that sprayed kind of weird. So my suggestion would be to buy maybe two more cans and you think you need.

I went with the Amber version as opposed to black. I think black looks good on the frame for sure, but if you’re going to be spraying other things, you can do like I did and go with the amber version.
